I was two maning UW today and noticed that I wasn't getting any energy. I canceled Balthazar's Spirit only to find out that it wasn't that one or the other stopped working or got "nerfed" but that Prot Bond now costs 2 mana at level 17, even if it doesn't say that.

as of early this morning at about 1:00 a.m. it was still only costing 1 energy.....

I just tested PB. I can still get a lvl 17 cast which only requires 1 energy to maintain. So in other words, it still works atm.

I thought I hit the nerf the other day... I was probably sitting there for 5 minutes trying to cast it and got nothing but 2.
Another note, if you happen to accidentally recast Protective Bond (ie, when scrambling for Bonetti's Defence) even though the icon will still say '1 energy' the buff will be overwritten and cost 2. But I dare not report it as a bug to ANet...

It still says 1 energy, it just wouln't give me any. I tested 4 times today and with Essence Bond and Balthazar's Aura I am getting 0 mana from being hit.
Has anyone here that has tested it today actually let themself get hit by an Aaxte? Becuase I am getting 0 energy.
Can any of you wonderfully delightful flamers give me a reason to why it's not giving me any energy?

This info is incorrect. Make sure it's level 17 next time and that you have both energy skills maintained.

Yes, that's my build. I meant to say Balthazar's Spirit.
And I am 100 percent sure that it was level 17 those 4 times (If you read what I said before you would know that) becuase it said that it costs 1 mana every time I get hit...

Oh yeah, that happens to me sometimes...my energy will go down tiny bits or won't change at all. That's why I consider Bonetti's Defense a staple in a 105 or 55 (thank you -50 focus item) build. I can't tell you how much it helps...between gaining 5 energy per miss, not having your slow recharge smite skills interrupted, (at least not as easily) and making grasping darkness officially way too easy to clobber. But yeah, Prot. Bond still works for me I think, and even if it gets nerfed to the point where 17 only gives -2 energy, as Algren Cole said, Bonetti's will still recharge energy fast enough so that it won't matter.

Sagius, using such an intricate setup I'm sure you realize that essence bond doesn't trigger on just any 'damage', whereas balthazar's spirit does. Chances are you were getting hit by an incorrect damage type, which means you gain 1 energy (from spirit) and lose 1 energy (from bond), with a net result of no energy gain.
Or could it be you're just running a build you don't even understand? I thought so.
