I use teamspeak for my guild, so it doesn't really apply to me anymore, except when I'm trading, so I guess it does apply to me....

What you do is untick all the chat options and it'll filter out everything except for the boxes that are ticked. This is so you can only see either guild speak, whisper messages, team speak, emotes, trade, vicinity or a combination of them. I've found this very useful.
