I can't seem to...

find the thread that I made a while ago that became a petition to nerf the vendors. But I am proud of A.Net for taking the wise choice to heart. Tonight I went to see how much I would get ripped off by selling a dye trader the silver dye I got for a drop... and I found there was no dye trader!
In fact, I then found out that there is no rune trader to buy my minor vigor for 25 gold when it's worth 250... he's gone.
They're all gone. All the vendors. Even the sigil trader!
Oh, no worries, the merchant is still there, but A.Net just pulled the wisest move I've seen them do in a long time. Now we control the market, not some dickheaded NPC!

I'll have to rate this joke a 2 out of 10.

Uh, we always controlled the market. The NPCs just reflected supply and demand. If lots of people wanted Superior Monk Runes, the price went up. If no one wanted major ranger runes, their price went down. Same with materials and dyes.

Player based economies are for the most part terrible and only benefit players who play abnormally.

There aren't enough casual and more importantly consistent Gold sinks that take Gold out of the economy or sane caps on prices. I'm pretty sure that isn't exactly hurting the Gold Sellers.

What the OP is describing sounds very much like he was in one of the internatrional districts .. where there are no traders outside the merchant.

After the latest patch they might as well add them because there is no difference in prices between the different realms anymore.

This thread just turned a lot more amusing now that it became apparent that the Original Poster might have made a mistake not knowing about international districts as opposed to joking as Lost guessed.

My first thought was the person was in the international districts. *eyes Ristaron* So which was it? Joke, or you just 'forgot'? <EG>

Hmm... the rune vendor last night had no problem selling me runes...

Ignoring any pointless flames (really, I didn't read anything beyond my first post when I came back to this thread), I should like to ammend my previous statement.
The vendors WERE gone.
For all of 5 minutes.
It seems they got reset again, and I just ran into Droknar's (and even went to Lion's Arch to check) during the period they were away.
Believe me, I held alt and looked all around, they were gone for a bit.
