We all know they not used for anything at the moment, but as it stands they are a crafting materials for something.
They are ok fairly ok prices at the moment, does anyone else think it should be worth collecting these now and hoping their worth something later?
Trying to get them from trader is impossible, they sell out like hot cakes.

I think the frog at one point talked about rubies and sapphires, and that something will be done with these items eventually. Those who've been hording them will get a lot of benefit out it, if the the gems are ever used.

If you ask me, this is a practical joke being played on you by ANet. They put in these really valuable-looking crafting materials, yet give them no apparent purpose. People start buying them, thinking they're going to be used for something at some point... but they may never be! Great way to get rid of your money, though...

That's the whole idea right now. Buy the stuff, knowing that the developers will code a use for them sooner or later. Stockpile, and resell when they are really in high demand. Same as everything else, except they look damn purty and the frog says they will have a use soon.

I've had a Sapphire sitting around since a week into release. The only one I've ever seen dropped did it in Nolani from a Stone Elemental. If they ever create a purpose for the item, they'll also increase the drop rate.

I have a suspicion that they will be used to craft an item called "ghost armour" Just my thought, it will be some sort of ghost armour or some sort of spirit armour. That way we could all look like the people on the crystal desert quests!

Id prefer to get away from the real world of rich vs. poor by playing a bloody video game... keep in mind that it is exactly that; a video game!
