Scammed?? Please Post

To avoid people that like to scam after the update I have been selling a lot of stuff right to the merchants. Unless it's something really worth it I look up the prices first then make sure I am getting a good enough deal.
After I thought about these people with over 1mil gold, I was thinking what's the point? I have just under 400k and that was all made fairly. Now I am sitting there thinking, hmmm what I am gonna do with this money. Why do people brag about I made $XXX today from farming. What do you need all that money for? Play the game and enjoy it, you will get all you need for your characters just from the drops you get even if it takes you a while.
And for those that think scamming is so neat and are proud of it, I just am not going to bother saying anything to you. Do whatever you want, people just can't seem to get through to you anyway.

The best scam so far for GWs was the "OMG DUPLICATE YOUR CDKEY" one.. Heres how it went.
" My friend has just figured out the algorythm for the CDkeys and the majoraty of them work TWICE! all you have to do is take your CDkey and add 5 to every number, then go down 3 in the alphabet for each letter. Ie say your origional key is "II46-S364I" You take 2 letters down from I wich is G and add five to your number so for 4 it's 9 and heres what you should end up with "GG911-U8119G" Note you must do this with an unused key and It totally works perfectly. However you are having anyproblems send me the NEW key you generated using this algorythm (don't send out the origoinal key to ANYBODY not even GuildWars would ask to see this) Email me the new one at BLAH BLAH AT HOTMALE.COM" Now any genious would have realised that all he would have to do is add 5 to all the numbers and go up 3 in the alphabet and have your origional key.. A verry well thaught out scam tough that I'm sure lots of people fell for.

You know what? Im an old guy and I got scammed the first week playing the game. So to say it's usually 12 yr. olds isn't always the case.
In my case it was just ignorance. (which btw in case many of you don't know, doesn't mean you're stupid, just that you're not familiar with something).
Anyway I was selling something and this guy told me he couldn't see the item. I thought maybe it was a bug in the game or something so this person says, "just hit accept" which I did. Of course he ran away laughing all the way to the bank. Lesson learned, and it will never happen to me again. This person ran away so fast it was actually funny. But if you're not familiar with this genre, this kind of stuff is gonna happen regardless of your intelligence. Some people such as myself just generally trust people, which I suppose IS a form of stupidity nowadays.
But to the guy who started this post. I'm not sure how or why you would get satisfaction from hearing stories such as this. Apparently you have the IQ of Einstien, and this kind of thing could NEVER happen to such an obviously brilliant individual!

To say that "this is just a game" just doesn't cut it. You are not the only one playing this game. In many cases, you are interacting with other people. When you scam someone, you are stealing from them. You are stealing the time it took them to get whatever was stolen and their enjoyment of the game. I use words like "Fraud" and "Stealing" because that's exactly what scamming is. Someone needs to put it into perspective for people who scam. It's not ok because "it's just a game."

i hope this thread doesnt turn into a flame war like the "Too Biased?" thread did. Anybody who read that thread knows what im talking about.
Also, you will not get scammed if you look at what the other person is trading you before you hit ok. Take 2 seconds and see if the numbers add up, and put your curser over the items to make sure they are the ones you wanted in the first place. Simple precautions.

So I suspect that if someone ever scammed you out of all your possessions and money (in the real world) that you would do nothing about it, since "you deserved it" for being scammed? Point is: No one deserves to be scammed. Not a one. |

The best scam I have seen, ever, is: Player A Has a 15-28 15%>50 Stormbow, gold. Player B convinces Player A to put the bow up, in exchange for his "fissure armor", aka regular 15k armor. He puts up 100k and agrees to paying the rest in 100k payments, up to 1.8 million. Player A hits accept. Player B Whispers him saying "Buhbye!" and walks over and buys new 15k armor I win? I soooo want -10 ectos. |

We're all human beings. No one is better then the other. If you get scammed, it's because you're not keeping an eye out for these things.

My point is, we're all human beings. If you get scammed, it is your own fault. Unless you can PROVE it isn't. Every single scam post I've read, is because people are trusting runners, or falling for something stupid, or not checking the item/price. Last week someone tried to sell me "black dye", which just looked black. He wanted 8k for it. I moused over the "dye" to confirm, and realized that it wasn't what I wanted. I closed the trade and walked off.

No one is better than another, you are correct. But someone has to take a stand. The reason I'm upset about this not so much that these things continue to happen (which is sad), but that it seems accepted by people and blamed on the "newb" or "idiot" who "deserved it" because he wasn't paying attention. I agree whole-heartedly that people need to pay attention to what they are doing. However, "being human" is no excuse for the deed. Yes, we make mistakes. But do we walk away and say, "Oh well, it was my fault anyway" without confronting this behavior? No.

If you were shopping and got rung up for an item that was $10 more than the price listed, would you raise a stink about it after you discovered the error when you got home? Would you go back and try to get a refund on the overcharge or just sit there and say "lesson learned." The only real difference here is that the exchange happens between parties who likely have no recourse for correcting a transaction gone bad.
In the real world we have arbitrators who can act on our behalf with greater power than we have. In GW, we have no one. (ANet doesn't have the resources to deal with virtual fraud effectively, so in essence they are useless as a judge.)
Still, as I've said, 'tis good advice to take transactions slowly. Because we are "on our own," it would behoove the buyer to take "caveat emptor" very seriously.

lol, in my newb days i sold a golden long bow with great stats.. anywayz,i didnt know it was "t3h h4XoR 5hi73" so

I agree with you wholeheartedly Bill, and well put.
The trouble I see with this post is the original creator of it, (although there was at least a hint of sarcasm in his statement), and other people that seem to agree with his opinion. Getting entertainment from stories of other people losing either money or items through scammers just seems to me a bit sick. I only related my story to get to the point at the end of my response to it.
The only other game in this genre I've played was Asherons Call 2 for about a month prior to GW, and I wasn't scammed once in that game. While I feel GW is a far better game overall than that one, at least that games community felt pride in the game and the people playing it. The one person I heard that did scam others in AC 2 (in my limited time playing), was blackballed by the players in-game and was so hated
no one would even talk to the person.
Unfortunately, GW has such a huge player base (which also unfortunately seems to be comprised mostly of either punk type 12 yr. olds or mentally stilted adults), that I doubt that type of community will ever happen with GW.

I hate getting scammed. The feeling is terrible, when your stomach sinks and you realise that you just lost somthing you worked so hard for /and/or paid for. The first time I ever got scammed was back when I was 11 on Diablo (ONE lol) Long before bobafetts came out and killed the game entirely. I got Merchimitses Reaver, if anyone recalls it was one of the best and best looking axes in the game. Some guy I thaught was a friend as Id being playing with him for 3 hours told me he could dupe using pots. (a glitch I had seen done but could never master (as I never lagged)) So I dropped the axe.. and hes gone... I litterally cried.. Yes.. Like a baby.. because that shitty feeling inside hurt like a kick in the nutz. I then got scammed for GuildWars.. No not in game.. FOR the game. I couldn't afford to buy the game as I was out of work since february. So i found a site known as KTZ (I won't post the link) And there was SOOOOOOOOO many people wanting BF2 keys for GW keys etc.. So I offered up a fake BF2 key.. Hoping to scam some one for a GW key.. (yes.. I'm as bad as they are..) Anyway it didn't work as they were all pro traders. So I figured.. Screw it, I don't play HL2 or CSS etc anymore. So I'll trade my steam account (with about £150's worth of games on it) So anyway a guy comes on, gives me the GW account and pass (sure not a key but an account will do if I can change the pass) so I logged in.. seemed fine. So I handed over the Steam account and pass. When it came to changing the password.. I couldn't I needed to do it via the play NC site.. different login details. I was horrified at first. So I emailed him and asked him the play NC info he said he didn't know as he got it off a friend.. I figured what the hell aslong as he doesn't use the account it's only me thats got it.
Anyway after 2 days hard grafting with a nerco/mo (first ever build what can I say) I got logged out as some one else was using it.. I was horrified like WTF!! I logged back in.. The char was looted and the other 2 that were already there were too... Turns out over 20 people have that account name and pass and all struggle day after day to use it. I felt so bad inside.
Also today I've found out my GWs key was suspended because I purchaced the game and key off ebay. Gutted again.
Yeah it hurts to get scammed.. But you don't often take that into concideration when you do it to some one else..
I also think theres abit of human nature that comes into it when scamming. Why pay for it when you can get it for free right?

Halloween night as a sixth grader with 4 or 5 friends. We all had makeup on our faces as one costume and backup full faced masks as a second costume. When we'd come to a home that gave away an unusual amount of candy or football cards, we'd walk out to the driveway around the corner and put on the masks and take off our sweatshirts to go back to the door for seconds.
Well needless to say that year as a sixth grader was my best haul ever. My friends and i were standing on a driveway gloating and flirting with some girls who had joined us, when a couple older teenagers came round the corner. My friend, Chris backed up the driveway away from the sidewalk, but i stayed where i was, unsuspecting, with the pillow case full of candy, football cards, and the scamming mask inside hung over my back. Swoosh! Away went the pillow case and the whole night's work with those 2 punk teenagers who ran off and jumped in a car waiting for them.
This is where the shitty feeling part happens, kicked nuts, crying...all that.
But hey! I was a little scammer myself that night, so it was some quick justice that the scammer turned into the scammie. (yes i know that the teenagers stealing the pillowcase of candy doesn't qualify as a scam, but i needed a little therapy session here. Do you mind?)
So all you scammers out there listen up. What goes around, comes around. Mine came fast that Halloween night. Yours may not come so fast, but it will. Just give it some time. Muwahhahahaha.

Yeah well for any of you who believe there is some form of intelligence to scamming like this...... then your just as sick as the scammers themself!
THERE IS NOTHING SMART and or INGENIOUS about preying on the goodwill of others!.
IT IS neither HARD nor requires any brains, WHAT IT DOES REQUIRE HOWEVER
is just a plain, selfish disregard for other people!!!!

THE VICTIMS OF THESE "SCAMS" are nothing more then DECENT, well meaning people .
The only ignorance found here lay's with the sick screwed up outcasts who find enjoyment in ripping others off ! , then within their empty loveless self, finding a distorted sense of pleasure in doing do.
WHY you find this amusing in the slightest completly escapes me ?
A SCAMMER is a SCAMMER is a SCAMMER, weather it is for your next Home Loan, your next shopping purchase, or within a online game world such as Guild Wars.
There is NO DIFFERANCE whatsoever, between a online manipulative theif, and a real life theif/con-artist.
THE SAME INTENTIONS are in place, and that is a PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE SELF LOATHING, PROJECTED ONTO OTHER HUMAN BEINGS!.
The one common character trait shared amongst these sad sad people.
Ultimatly if you take pleasure in ripping others off, or preying of the kindness of other human beings, you have some SERIOUS F***KING ISSUES! and a LOT
of growing up to do.
When you are ready to stop hating yourself, and projecting the hollow emptyness you feel inside, onto the rest of the human race, then and only then may you see how very WRONG you really are !!!!.

someone wanted to buy Fleshcleaver for 20k and an ecto... and I had one, so he opened up the trade, and showed 20k. Then he said to me "whoops forgot the ecto", put an ecto into the trade, and he cleverly changed the 20k to 20g. Then I hit accept and walked away.
