I abosultely HATE the way my 1.5k gladiator's helm looks. I was thinking of using a Knight's Helm, but is it worth it for aethsetics to lose the 1 point energy boost and +1 to tactics in favor a +1 strength boost? I don't think losing 1 point of energy is going to hurt much, but what concerns me is Tactics. Is Tactics really an essential attribute that I need boosted?
Sorry if this is confusing, and thanks in advance.

Well, my question is whether Tactics is even a worthwhile attribute.
But now that you mention runes, how do you get runes from items? Do you have to use an expert salvage kit?

If you want to use the Crimson Carapace Collector Shield Health+45 when in stance dmg -2 when in stance, then Tactics is a must. I have yet to come across an uber strength shield, im not sayiing they arnt out there but Ive not seen one.
As for getting runes from items, the answer is yes, Expert salvage kit them.

So basically, other than to use items that require tactics, there's not much point?
I never use shields because I'm a hammer user.

Looks like now my problem will be getting the materials needed for the Knight's Helm.

Errr...well sort of but tactics is supposed to help you defensively, although Ive not seen the stats, but i do take less damage with +9 tactics than +3.

The description of Tactics says that it helps with defensive and protective spells and whatnot. Anyway, I'm fairly positive I'm going to go with the Knight's helm, but that'll take awhile now. I guess rather than farm nonstop I'll just play the game as usual until I have everything I need. My only problem is being short on money.

Stances are godly. Read up on the descriptions of some of your stances.

A lot of kiddies ignore stances because they usualy don't do damage, and a damage geek has no patience for understanding skill interactions. He can only do simple math, so he can't get past the "this skill does xx dmg and that skill doesn't".

If you're a knockdown War going up against another knockdown war, balanced stance could make all the difference.

Glad defense DOES do damage, guaranteed at that.

Defensive stance, Berserker stance, Bonetti's, the list goes on. They are all instant cast, uninteruptable skills that do something good. Most of them have reasonable cooldowns as well.

When my War is needed to tank, I take not a single attack skill, with the possible exception of Glad. I spec nothing or very little into a weapon tree, and I bring a shield and high tactics. I also leave the superior and major runes at home. I take at lease 4 stances, and I worry about doing my job. TANKING does not mean killing. It means holding the line so the CASTERS can do the killing.

I would say that tactics are the single best skill tree a War has. The fact that they are so often ignored is more a statement of the maturity of the player community than a statement about their worth.

Tactics is a worthless skill line when it comes to pvp, aside from a small number of shouts. For pve? Go nuts, tactics is a good choice if all you want to do is take, or avoid as much damage as possible.

I think it all depends about what aspect of the game your talking about, for PvE stances are awesome because you can hold back whole groups of enemies and not take too much damage, but in PvP more often than not if it comes down to the other team attacking warriors your team has already lost making your stances a moot point because it doesn't really matter if you can stay alive for a little while longer cause the rest of your team is dead.

Can Steel Ingots be salvaged from Charr armor?
I just used a whole expert salvage kit worth of salvages on the armor I found farming outside piken, and not a single steel.

In PvE Tactics is an outstanding line for a Warrior Primary. You want to be the tank, and all of those defensive stances help you with that immensely. You could argue that it's a more important line than your weapon attribute in PvE.

Now in PvP it's more marginal. Defensive stances on a Warrior are largely wasted, and you'd only want Tactics for a narrow set of skills. Generally Strength and your weapon attribute are the way to go in PvP, for more damage and aggressive skills.

For the original question, how much effectiveness are you willing to give up for looks? That's entirely up to you. PvE is easy enough that your choice of armor is going to be largely irrelevant, so using what looks good, while not the most effective plan of action, is not going to be the difference between success and failure. On the other hand, you're going to be laughed at for using a non-weapon attribute helm in PvP. So I'd suggest using whatever you want on your RP character, but when it comes time to enter the arena put your best equipment on and try to win.

Peace,

I think the +1 in your weapon works out better than +1 Strength, but I'm not sure. But Strength > Tactics in PvP anyway. You could always get two separate helmets if you can't decide

And to answer your other question, you have a higher chance of salvaging steel from higher level armors. I don't think I've ever gotten steel from Charr armor; it's a waste to use expert salvage kits early on.

Well, what drops metal items then? I've made it as far as the Sage Lands and was also run to Droknar's. Anything outside Droknar's that drops metal?

It's a fine attribute but there's a big difference between being a good attribute and being your highest attribute. Builds that use Strength will usually put it in the 9-12 range. Spending your hat on it instead of your weapon is a colossal mistake.

That's true pretty much across the board - the higher quality the item, the better your chances of getting the material from the rare column instead of the common column. Steel comes from all sorts of items - swords, axes, hammers, wands, shields, and some armors. You just won't find the armors worth spending the expert salvage on until later. You're best off just buying the stuff early on, offer ~180 for an ingot and you should find sellers.

I like my gladiator helm. Looks good with my gladiator armour. but I also enjoy the +1 sword.

I play completely for aesthetics, and the gladiator's helm is butt ugly. I actually deleted my first warrior because of it...heh. But now, I've bought the Ascalon helm and am back on track to living a healthy life. Um, game life.

Watch Yourself is outstanding in PvP and a must in PvE. It's cheap and has tremendous range. just with a few points invested you add 20 armor to the entire party.

Couldn't say it better myself

I do FoW runs with a few people, and we always use the same build of 2 warriors, 3 or 4 nukers, and 2 or 3 monks.

Me and my counterpart warrior just buff ourselves up with mass points in tactics, and put on those crucial stances. Endure Pain is also a good addition, although a lot of points in strength will be required.

We just absorb all the damage, while our nukers nuke away

Prey tell where one gets said shield?

I use no tactics, but it seems it beats my +16 armor.

Oh yeah I had plate, didnt like the helm. Went to all knights b4 I knew I could mix and match. Did make a cool shimmering Lilac colour for it.
