also another question....i have the warrior/ranger combination and i seem to die extremely quickly....any certain spell that i should try to obtain to help?.....and once while in a party i saw another ranger with a linx cat with a red and black color.....how do u change your pets color?????? sorry if all these questions sound stupid but im juss tryin to catch on as quick as i can...thanx guys

you don't upgrade weapons with materials, you customize it at the weapon npc to increase the damage by 20% but then the weapon can only be used by your character (there's one in Ascalon and every major outpost)
to increase the resistance of your character, buy a new armor (you will need gold and specific materials), you can do this at the armor crafter (present in many outposts)

Thanks for your help.....ill stop trying to upgrade everything and look around in the outposts

You will find lots of upgrade items, aka "mods," as you progress.
When a weapon has blue, purple, or gold text, if you don't want to use or sell the weapon, expert salvage it for a (sometimes random) modifier, such as: Insightful Staff Head (adds energy to staff), Barbed Axe Haft (lengthens cripple or bleeding I think), etc. You will sometimes find these mods on crappy weapons, just use your EXPERT salvage it and add it to a good weapon instead.
Other materials you salvage, such as iron ingots, tanned hide squares, etc, you may wish to save as well, because you will be able to use these to have better armor crafted for you. (Though that storage unit fills up quickly!)

One of the best heals in the game is the ranger one. You can apply it BEFORE you take damage. Its the only ranger skill alwasy on my bar.
