IF i have a shocking bow string and add it to my bow but dont have conjure XXX i still do damage right????

Of course.
It just makes your damage lightening damage.

Yes. All the string does is change your damage from its normal piercing damage to lightning damage.

EDIT: Just to add, it's not a stupid question
