Why aren't there more drops?

Seriously, dyes should drop COMMONLY because they're just a whim to make you look how you want, and dyes have a very little effect on how you look anyway and I'd like to experiment with dye combos if it weren't for the outrageous prices. If gold and purple were more common but not mega common then at least we'd be able to have fun with the game. Seriously, if items dropped more, I'd enjoy the game more. What's the point in making it so there's almost no drops and tons of monsters? I mean seriously what's the point? It's a game to have fun and grinding at it until you have enough money etc is a pain in the ass. We need to have some way of fixing the economy (wow that's almost a cliche now FFS.) and also have fun (another cliche. Fun. Ha.) Not to mention the constant grind of not having the skills needed to PVP (OMG 3 Cliches in one? Oh sweet! er... not really)

I dunno how long youve been playing...but before:

Black Dye, 43k
Silver dye, 8k
Red/Blue/Whatever: minimum 1k

So this is an improvement. And they aren't crazily priced, either...
After buying even droknar's armor, the extra few k to buy dyes to make you pretty or whatever is nothing.

I have draknors armour, and even if it is an improvement, it's still bad. So much nerfing. jeeze can't this game lets us have fun and get items?

I think the main catch-22 is that if monsters drop dye more, then they'd have to drop other items less. I can see the outcome of that: "OMG y rnt my collecktar itemz droppng lol" or "WTF all i getz is dye now lol anet makeing farming more of a grind lol" or something of that nature.

People won't ever be satisfied... /sigh

Id rather have ALL drops reverted to what they were at the launch of the game, where you could actually get rares by doing missions, rather than farming for hours to get something like a HP+20 Prefix crap.

Right, so your idea of change isn't more dye, it's better quality drops I agree, but that comes back to the same problem--what one person desires may not be what another one desires, then you're back at the same argument about drops.

Different strokes for different folks.

actually...there were about 100 or so people that signed a petition to stop nerfing the drops some time ago. turned into a major flame war.

I'm just saying, every monster should drop an item, and drop rates should be increased so that you're getting 1-2 gold and 2-3 purples in a mission on average and 3 dyes of so per mission. The rest can be whities.

They do. However, if you happen to be using henchmen you will not see the drops that go to the henchmen.

Nope, even solo now... not every monster drops an item.

If you farm multiple people at a time and use aoe, you might not notice it as much... i think its down to every other 3-4 monsters dont drop(or a certain percentage*duh*, so you could get lucky for a while, but there wont be a drop every time)... A while back they nerfed it so bad that sometimes no items would drop at all if you entered an area too many times within a time-frame... and at that time i recall every other monster not dropping items.

Well personally I think this is a game. Why are they nerfing items? Because people try to make money off of this? I personally don't see this as exploitation, maybe of chests, but if you can go in and kill stuff, go ahead, I'm a me/mo one of the weakest classes, I don't mind going in with some friends or henchies to get drops... as long as they're not stealing all of them.

I hope you mean "weakest classes" as in "can't take hits too well," as mesmers are great

Anyhow, dyes I thought were meant to be a gold sink, something you didn't have to have.

Some missions have hordes of monsters, so more monsters should mean more drops. I don't like the idea of always getting good items. I agree, drops have been overnerfed, but you don't have to be handed rares every single time you head out. That's why the in-game text calls them "rares."

"Oh look, it's my 10th rare in a row!!!"

I don't get a lot of rares or dyes, but I sell what items I get and then buy what I want. It's much easier to buy the item you want then to farm for hours trying to get that specific dye or godly item.

I'm not saying 10 rares in a row, I'm saying 1-2 per mission as a standard. Perhaps even none. I think Anet has tried to stop bots so bad that they've also stopped players aswell. Pieces of shit. Yo ho yo ho a pirate's life's for me.

1-2 for mission mean 16 drop for a party of 8 a little to many for a "rare drop"

I think he meant 1-2 per mission for the whole team, so it could be 1 for 2 people or 2 for one person, not none for anyone.

Personally, a better solution would be to have it so that roughly 1 in 5 monsters gave a drop per person in the team, so with 5 people in your team each monster gives a drop for someone, and with 6 or more some monsters will drop twice, leaving the item chances as they are, and having heros always drop either top quality stuff (rares or purples or good dyes or whatever) or with heros always dropping something for each person in the team.

This will make teams of any size have the same item drop rates, so solo farming is no longer advantageous, so people play in a team more (still farming, but in a team. That's an improvement, right?) It would be better if the drop rate per team member actually increased with the number of people in the team, but I can't think of any easy maths to cause that right now.

BTW, when some monsters don't drop for you, are they normally in the first group or so you take? The first few monsters that are killed while soloing don't have a 100% drop rate, probably as an effort to stop botters. I tested this myself a while ago, soloing an area I'd only been in once before, about a month before I solo'd it. The drop rate for the first mob I took was very low, then it picked up a lot, and after 10-20 kills everything was dropping something.

If I'm killing a monster 8 levels higher than me I expect something better than a pile of 80 gold.

Gold sinks are dumb, this game has nothing to with your gold but buy a weapon because it looks 'cool'. Well, before they introduced rune traders it may have been a different story.

That's the point of a gold sink. It uses gold.

Well, as the economy has shown, the caps don't work, because of the drops. Drops are the main problem that the economy is the way it is. Now saying that, I don't think that is too bad a thing. Imagine now, if rare drops were more frequent. People would no longer be able to sell their rare drops, because even tho the stuff was gold, there was many more people out there with better golds. Therefore, rares would be split into "the best" and "the mediocre." Even now, you can find people who will buy "the mediocre" for reasons of money or that there aren't too many out there.. Flood the markets, and rares become worthless.
