PvE Arena

Ok i had this idea based on the Mega Drive game Golden Axe and also in Final Fantasy 7. Would it be fun to have an arena where you fight certain amounts of enemies and as you defeat them they get harder. You could specify which type of enemies so your profession if not highly unfair. And for every certain amount of wins you get a random item drop.
You could try out different builds easily doing this and it gives people a chance to gain more rarer and valuable items.

you could also form parties but the drops become more infrequent

I would prefer it if the drops became more frequent. As in, fighting in a group of 8 gets you more stuff than you would soloing them.

This is a team game, so let's fight as a team, and not send in (let n = n + 1) 105/55hp proc bond monks.

I would love to have an arena where I can fight hordes of monsters in a group for stuff. Faction, rare drops, dyes, gold, xp, any of them would be a nice reward. I would say a system like the faction one that RP characters could redeem for items (dyes, crafting materials and so on) would be perfect (and overly hard to implement)

It'd be a great system for those who like to fight monsters instead of real players.
Good for the PVM builders. Getting faction points though this would be nice.

Well, not to criticize, but Thirsty River is really already a PvE Arena. If you really feel a hankering to go play an arena, go play Thirsty. And secondly, if they were to award faction doing this, it would destroy the game. The game is a PvP game, with a PvE element built in. Faction is made thru destroying human "smart" enemies. I would tho, as he said like a designated "farm" spot where enemies become harder and harder the further you go in, and since they become harder, drops get better the further you fight into it.

I have seen it in alot of games and it is something I really enjoyed. Maybe you could get points which allow you to trade them in for items and rare stuff

Fable has a nice way of doing this, but you can only do it once, unfortunately.

Basics of it:
You have to fight through about six groups, each of which is composed of about four to five waves, depending on the difficulty of the monsters in the group. Each group is divided into a different monster type, and each group is filled with a progressively nastier monster type. You fight one wave at a time, with each successive wave in the group getting harder. At the end of each group, you get a monetary award, which again inreases after each group. If you finish every group before falling, you get a HUGE amount of money and a pretty damn good item.

Personally, I like this idea. However, I feel there shouldn't be faction or XP awards just for primarily build testing or fun. Like in FF7 there should be a prize for a certain number of straight wins (or Battle Points earned). They could also do what FF7 did and have the slots which can add a random status effect, but that could be taking it too far...

I like this idea alot - although there are numerous problems I see with it.

1-It's farming of sorts - people will do it for items only.
2-It's grind - people will just do it for exp.
3-Underworld/Fissure seem to have been created to tend for this.

Still, if they could find a balance for it, I'd love to try it Would give my N/Me something to do when Europe doesn't have favour (so .. 90% of the time).

Thirsty River is too long to be a fun arena. I'm guessing people want PVE arenas just like PVP arenas where the battles are short.

While I agree with you that there shouldnt be faction given to PVE arenas because you'd already get rewarded with XP and drops/gold, it's a bit tired and overreactive to say that "it will destroy the game" Too many people declare this and that "destroying the game"

And no, this is not strictly a PvP game. It maybe be PvP oriented but look at the immense PvE content in the game. You can't honestly declare that this game just a little "PVE element" in it. Anything that adds fun and variety to the game is welcome.

1. How is it strictly farming? It can potentially be used for farming, but everything in game is farming potential. Even PVP can be used to farm for faction. This point is not a negative.

2. Again, how is it grind? I agree that the game has a lot of grind in it, but people are throwing the word "grind" way too casually and where it doesnt apply. Do you understand what grind is? It's being FORCED to do something over and over. As far as I know, people want PVE arenas just for fun, not something mandatory. It's not as if people are asking that everyone has to defeat a million monsters in the PVE arenas in order to reach Droknar's or something.

Just because people might use it to get XP doesnt mean at all that it's a grind. People get XP in PVP too. Does that mean it's grind?

3. UW/Fissure created as an PVE arena? WHAT THE? These areas are no where close to being arena-like at all. WHAT THE?!

I have to agree with Eet here.

Farming exists in every MMO in some form. There's no real way to stop it. I'm not a farmer, but I understand people's desire to do it. This would be a great way to implement a place in the game fro people who enjoy doing it, and it would be a challenge AND rewarding. Personally I see that as win-win.

Grinding... wow. This game really doesn't have much of a grind. I've played other games, where you were indeed FORCED to grind... there was no other way to get what you wanted. Here there are several ways to get different things, or at least sevreal options of how to get them.

UW/FoW are no where NEAR arena-like. I'd call it more of a high end farming spot.

I like the OP's idea. It might require a few tweaks to make it work, but I'd give it a go if they implemented it.

My thoughts to this:

1- It wouldn't be terribly difficult (at least, I don't think it would be) to make it so that the monsters drop nothing, or at most a bare minimum. In the Fable version of this, all they drop is occasional healing/mana potions and an occasional small amount of gold, which is a fair bit different from the norm..
2- Quite frankly, there's no such thing as an RPG without grind, GW has just succeeded in minimizing it. Besides, this would be OPTIONAL grind :P
3- UW and FoW are only vagule related to this idea. Besides, for us non-farmers out there (well, besides the odd Whitman's Folly clearing that I do), it's something new to do besides waiting for the favor and making UW/FoW runs while we have it.

Any body here do the Undead Horde's quest from beetletun?
it's the same concept, although you can only do it once, and it does end but that is probably my favorite quest ever, would love to see something like this put in that you could do multiple times, even if just for experience and not drops.. but whatever

yeah i enjoy the beettltun quest too i love helping out groups but there is a big problem with this as i can solo the mission with ease and it ruins it for other people. but an arena version would be excellent

if u look at hall of heros only the best get sigils at the end and it is really hard if a similar concept was used for a pve arena it would stop people farming it
