I don't have any Primary Quest in my log???

Hi,
When i hit (L) key and have 8 - 10 quests but none of them is Primary quest?
What can i do now with those existing quests? Thoses quests are not neccessary to finish right? All i have to finish all of them to discover new area (map)? I am in Piken Square city.
Also, regarding upper right corner map direction. I usually see a Green Triangle on the map for direction to the quest after i select the quest from log. But none of my existing quests showing Green Triangle? How do you guys finish thoses quest w/o Green Triangle? The city is so huge and keep walking everywhere?
Thanks.

finish those quests and you may discover something new.
you have to select a quest in the quest window for the arrow to show up. but if the quest is more than one maq away, I believe in most cases, you won't see the arrow until you get one map closer.

If you want more info, let us know where you are and we can probably tell you what your primary quest is.
If you are still in post-searing Ascalon, that just means you have to go to the main queuest that is "Great Northern Wall"

Hi,
I finished the training ground (I guess it calls post-Ascalon city) and in Great Nortern Wall. Finish some qust in Ascalon City and Pekin Square.
But when i read the quest in log. The subject of the city is Pekin Square and i am in Pekin Square town but still not showing the green triangle? Is that mean the quest is finish at Pekin Square? Like on e i foroget the quest name but the mission is go to find a Temple in Pekin Square and collect someone's ashes...... No Green Triangle. How you do it? Keep walking everywhere in the map to find it W/O any direction?
I am newbie here. What is Primary quest for? Is that mean i have to finsh Primary quest before next new area (map) appear? I bought the GW guide and look at the map. The map has many cities and areas. How to i get there?
Thanks.

you can get to the new towns mostly by doing missions, or by going there directly by running.
join a group and follow them to the quest area. you don't have the green arrow probably means you are still too far from the quest map.

wait, isnt piken one of the first mission cities?
us_matrix
I have alraedy finish at least 10 quests or more after post-ascalon.
Most were done in Ascalon city and Piken City?
Is Primary quest consider must complete mission? Why i don't have Primay in my log now?

primary quests help you get to the next city for missions. i believe piken is a mission city. there might be a box on the right hand side of the screen (or wherever your party window is) that says enter mission or something like that. you dont HAVE to do primary quests to get to the next area. you can have a runner take you there, or farm there on your own with henchies or other players. but you have to know where to go to catch up to the story.

Here is the point, how do i know where to go? The quest log (L key) only tell me to go there go do something but it did not tell me what will be after that?
I am pretty much stuck in the area (between Ascalon City and Pekin Square for quite a while) and not seeing any new area?

no, piken is not a mission city.
northern wall, next to ascalon is the first mission city post-searing.

Yes, I finished Nortern Great wall mission too. And stuck in this area now.

Primary doesn't mean much.
You need to go to co-op missions to move through the real story.

have you talked to everyone in each area with a green "!" over their head? have you looked for cities that say "cooperative mission" when you zone in? those are the only 2 choices you have.

I have talked to everyone with Green ! over their head and accept all of their quests.
>have you looked for cities that say "cooperative mission" when you zone in? >those are the only 2 choices you have.
I don't see "Cooperative mission" in cities? What is that mean? Is that mean i have to find some othes to finish the mission? Where i can learn more about this?

Post some screenshots of your zoomed-in map. Try to make sure you cover all the towns marked on the map.

If you finished Defend the Wall, you should have ended up in Fort Ranik. Do the Fort Ranik mission, and you end up in an outpost NE of the Defend the Wall quest. From there, you get a "Primary Quest" to head to the Ruins of Surmia. Then you end up in Nolani Academy after that.
Most "missions" will end you at another mission. But some end you at an outpost, and you need to follow a "primary quest" to get to the next mission.
Look at your map and find a flashing shield. It will be the mission that you haven't done. If one isn't flashing (make sure to zoom out and find all the ones you have), then you should be somewhere at an outpost after a mission.

If your quest ends at Piken Square and you're actually in it, you should see the green star instead of the arrow. Check your quest log, and talk to the NPC indicated. Some NPCs have multiple quests available, so you need to select the one that apply to your current quest.
Towns that are marked as shields on the map are cooperative missions. They are different from quests. I believed what you have done was to go to the Great Northern Wall, but didn't enter the mission there. If you've entered the mission there (press "Enter Mission" in that town) and finished it, you should end up in Fort Ranik.
Piken Square is not a mission town, and has no primary quests available. It's more of an optional town.

Yeah, That's why i see different icons in the map. Some has Shield w/something on it and some cities just has Red, Green, Yellow dot. What does those mean? Any URL to expalin these?
Arvydas
If you have your guild wars manual (not the Prima guide), there should be a section explaining Missions and Quests, as well as outposts and towns. That should be sufficient for you to learn the basics.

Attached is my current map. What should i do next? BTW, What is the difference between mission and quest?
Thanks.
Thanks.

A Mission you can only get from places on the map that have a shield and require you to push a button ('Enter Mission') in order to do it. Quests are given by NPCs.
For your ashes of Althea quest, find a group. There are a lot of people doing Althea's ashes in Piken. If you don't know the way, the best thing to do is look on the map offered on this site, unless you think it's a bit of a spoiler. But you're gonna find out sooner or later anyway so you might just as well...
What you should do next is up to you. Depends on what kind of pace you're going at. If you want to do all the quests, do them! If you just want to get to new places do the missions as it's the fastest mode of transport
If you don't always have a marker on the map, it means you're too far away from that quest. Check who you got the quest from (it says in the log) and go to the outpost where that NPC is. Check your map again to see if there's any arrows or markers. If not, try a different location that you've discovered.
Right now it's just trial and error. By the time you've created your 2nd character you'll have a much better understanding of your whereabouts
[EDIT] Looking at your map, you should probably do the Fort Ranik mission.

Here's some help..
Mission - these are the main story driven "quest's" in the game. When you enter a Mission you are put into an instance which does not have auto-resurrect if all your party dies. A mission is a quest that you complete to further the main storline, it also will put you into a new city/outpost/mission when you complete it - this is generally how peopleget to new area's nice and easily.. but following the missions.
Quest - this is something you get off any npc with a quest to give. These are non-essential to completing the main storyline - ie you can skip every one of them except for the "Primary Quest" ones (and these are fairly obvious when you get them/look at them). It's advisable to do the ones which give you skills, as it's always better to get skills from quests than using skill points.
Looking at your map your next "Mission" (ie story driven quest) is the fort Ranik mission. go and do that and it will drop you at the Frontier Gate. Now I'm assuming you have a whole bunch of quests - like Fires in the East - which don't show green arrow's on the mini-map for you in Piken Square.. you'll find that a few of them will show arrow's when you leave Frontier Gate as thats the area that they are in. The others are either in Old Ascalon or in the Diessa Flatlands or reached through Diessa Flatlands (which you haven't been to yet).. so you won't lkikely won't get the arrow till you get there (my advice is follow the story mission's till you end up in Noloni and head out from there). Oh and if one of the quest's is the Red Cloaked Deserter, he's in Regent's Valley (outside Fort Ranik)
Also, if you press "L" and check the text of the quest, it should either tell you where to go or where you should be going to look at it.

And yeah, do the Ft. Ranik COOP mission to advance your storyline. Althea's ashes is optional, you don't have to do it to advance the story. It is worth a lot of XP, though!
Hope this helps!

Is that mean level up quicker if i gain more XP?
Thanks.

Yes, the more xp you get the faster you will level. However, level in GW doesn't mean much since there is a level cap of 20. Basically all getting a level does for you is give you more health - don't get me wrong though, getting more health is a good thing
Welcome to Guild Wars and RPG's btw. Hope you enjoy.
Dwiggit - correct, the green arrow/star only shows up if your 1 area away from where the quest needs to be completed. This means if you have a mission in The Breach and are standing in Old Ascalon, you'll see an arrow pointing to the warp to The Breach.. but if you were standing in Regeant's Valley you wouldn't see an arrow or star when you had that quest selected.
BTW, my advice for doing althea's Ashe's is wait till your up to the Nonoli mission. Head out of there and head NE.. you should come across Grenich (sp?) Courthouse. Enter there and then head from the courthouse to do the ashe's quest. It's quicker and easier to get tere from the courthouse.. and btw, the ashe's quest is quite a bit tricker than a lot of other quest's that you get in ascalon.. so don't be ashamed or put off if you can't do it the 1st time. If you need any help doing it.. just post here and someone will give you advice
and btw.. don't buy the ashes. While that should work, it's not as satisfying as getting the ashes yourself just my opinion tho

Thanks for all the wondoerful help
I am not too worry about the Ashes quest since it is an optional but i just brought up as an example. I start like this game more after i learned this. I was really stuck before that.
Thanks and expecting the next version of GUILD WAR II
