So I get to Beetleton with my level 15 warrior. I'm playing this game mostly solo, accompanied only by my stoic henchmen. (I may marry Aleisia...it may come down to that. )

So this guy in Beetleton says they're having trouble with undead, and can I help? He promises some skill rewards for the mission, and that's the kind of mission I like best, so I accept.

So I exit Beetleton...

...and get the everloving crap beat out of me by this horde of undead. Level 16 Hellhounds in ridiculous quantities, level 17 phantoms, and all kinds of other rabble. I tried it three or four times, just me and my level 12 henchmen, but the battle is hopeless.

I may just abandon this mission and come back later.

Am I supposed to be able to do this mission now? Or am I in a place higher level than I'm supposed to be?

I think that one is one of the most fun and interesting quests of the game. They do tend to over-run most groups and there are SEVERAL waves of them before you have completed the quest. Higher levels and you will be able to survive with no trouble at all, or you can just do it now and take a full party of henchmen and expect to die about 50 times, but you respawn right there in the battle again, so once you have maxed out your death penalty, as long as you can kill at least one enemy with each respawn at the shrine, you will eventually get through them all.

You can try using human players to help.
You can use the henchmen and just die a ton and slowly grind the undead army down.
Or, you can come back later when your character is stronger.

The right builds can handle it alright, but really it is a tough area. My first character took it on using Symbol of Wrath and some smiting skills as well as a ton of life stealing stuff and it went alright, but it is not an easy task - it is best suited to area smiting damage. Area damage is also good, and having sombody who can deal with the conditions is nice - all that poison really adds up, but a regeneration skill can do wonders here. Never treid it with a warrior - I can only assume that you'd want some defensive stances availablle as they cut down so much of the damage, and possibly some good self heals as well. "I Will Avenge You" comes to mind as being useful here, since you will likely have deaths occurring, and it will give you more healing than the poison is causing and will last a nice long time with a couple of downed allies.

This is actually one of my favorite quests. I like having to deal with large mobs of enemies, including the level 0-3 monsters that serve as cannon fodder. However, it makes AoE essential which some characters lack.

I did it easily with henchies - died once, but resed and took the last wave out.

I did the "die 50 times" approach together with a friend and it was fun.
Res - kill - get killed - res - kill - get killed ...
The result was a certain sense of achievment but dieing that often was rather weird o_O

My husband and I did this last weekend, with two lvl17 Ele's (mine is an Ele/Mo, can't remember what his secondary is). We were forewarned to bring holy damage skills and it helped, a lot; we only got exterminated once, then managed to work our way through. It seemed like it would never end, then all of a sudden, they're all gone.

I used flare, meteor storm, phoenix, inferno (for when they got up close), smite and (I think) symbol of wrath; I left resurrect behind but orison of healing goes everywhere with me. The only group we had more trouble with was the undead in North Kryta. Somehow, my ranger was the only survivor, and I managed to kill the big bad guy while resurrecting everyone else. To date, my proudest moment playing GW; I just wish I could remember how I did it!

Did this mission easily without dieing and using henchies. I basically let Alesia fend for herself and attacked whoever was attacking Orion. When his nuke recharged, he was killing most of them.

Beetletun...northwestern part of Kryta, east of Divinity Coast. You fight off hordes of undead. Don't worry if you skipped it, it took me forever to find out about Beetletun. I just happened to be finishing up some last quests in Hot Springs when I joined some group heading there.

it helps some if you chill for a second and let all the little bone horrors die after you've res'd.

This is a quest i hate to death. I really do.
You want to know why?

YES... that was the very last monster left to finish the quest.
YES... i died 47 times because i took henchmen and tried on a necromancer
YES... there is a total of two henchmen alive.
YES... they stood there staring holes into thin air.
YES... the Bonedragon acted alike.
YES... i just had to re-do the whole sucide tactic again.

And to top that...
YES... Reyna was mocking me by starting to run towards me, only to run back asap.

This is not that hard compared to other quests in the game.you first target is the cleric and so forth. In other words grind away and if you think this hard wait till you get to you make your way to the temple of ages in the black curtian. This quest when i first did it was a little easier. The only trouple is all those minions that you have to deal with. You can go back and do it with henchies and get the cleric.

I did it taking Orion, Thom, Stefan, Alesia and "whats his name" cultist. My Ele was lv16 or 17... honestly don't remember but did it first time with no deaths. I'm E/Mo so I tore into them with my fire magic, healed myself and the cultist kept my energy up when it got low. Now I'm back there with my lv17 R/Me so its a new game now, we'll see how we do but its a fun mission IMO

It's too bad I already did this with my Necromancer. Now that he has Verata's Gaze, he could have a lot of fun with it....

I totally agree. You have to let the Bone Fiends/Horrors die first before re-engaging, or else you will continue to be hoplessly outnumbered. I won't tell you how long before I figured that out on my own (/doh)...

Part of the trick is that you can die and keep on fighting afterwards. With some characters, I beat this quest just by repeatedly dying, even down to -60% Death Penalty. As long as you can do damage before dying, you should be able to win.

Assuming henchmen aren't ignoring you.

Actually...come to think of it, it's Verata's Aura that I was thinking of instead of Gaze. Aura binds all hostile summoned minions to you, Gaze just turns one bound hostile minion hostile against everything (or binds it to you if it was already unbound).

This is pretty much my favorite quest in the game, and the only quest I've not completed. As soon as it's done, I abandon it and take it again

You can have the most fun with a fire ele, an axe warrior (cyclone axe!), or a ranger (barrage!, incerdery arrows! Ignite arrows!). I even got a special bow and axe to help me in this quest; the damage from a barrage or incendary/ignite arrows if awesome.

Firey Ascalon Bow of Deathbane
Fire damage (15-28)
Damage +15% (when health above 50%)
Damage +20% (customised)
Damage +18% (vs. undead)

That's a 53% damage increase, copuled with their weakness to fire, it hurts them for well over 100 each hit.

If anyone has an axe grip of deathbane, I'l pay a lot for it.

More quests like this please arenanet!

this quest WOULD be awesome if they dropped like normal undead, or better, if latter waves dropped better items. as it is, i have done it without getting a single drop in 3 waves, without any henchmen. like this, it really just seems like a waste of time. i mean, all that, and you get 500 xp, woohoo!

This is a fantastic quest for "beginning farmers". They keep coming and you keep ressing. Go in by yourself, and make sure to only finish the quest after you've stopped getting XPs for the kills.

CTRL + double click your name when your dead... healing hench (if any alive) will res you.

I did the mission with my lv17 warrior not to long ago. It was such a rush... still loads of fun.

Best time I ever had doing this mission was with my mesmer/monk. I told our warrior to just run at them and aggro the whole bunch. Then I dropped a Balthazar's Aura on him. Twice, with Arcane Echo. We were finished in no time.

This quest is basically a small version of something I've been advocating as a game update for quite some time: the PvE arena. Basically like any of the PvP arenas, except instead of other players you fight wave upon wave of increasingly difficult monsters. The monster difficulty could (or could not) increase with the number of players in your party (so you could solo it), and if farming is a concern, the monsters could be completely drop-less, and it would only be for fun and experience. I think of it like going up against the lions in ancient gladiator arenas. Upon completion of the arena (many dragons! 6 bosses, each of one class! Armageddon Lords!), you could get something nifty - maybe a sigil, to complement the HoH.
