Necro/Ranger
cschaef13
I am making a necro ranger with my skills in wilderness survival, marksmanship, blood magic, and curses any ideas? I have 7 blood magic, 6 curses, 6 marksmanship, and 6 wilderness survival. The skills I am using atm are, parasitic bond, vampiric gaze, res signet, healing spring, apply poison, power shot, ignite arrows, and dual shot.

my advice to you is to max out at least blood or curses depending on what you want to focus on (damage/energy regen for blood) and debuff support for curses.
better to be stron in at least on line then be weak in all

I agree with salja. it looks like you are spreading yourself too thin. It's generally better to be a master of one attribute than a jack of all trades.

Ditch the Marksmanship - only a ranger primary with expertise can make good use of bow attacks, as they are too expensive for other classes to run. Spending 10 for each power shot and dual shot is absurdly expensive. You should probably ditch the bow entirely, unless you wish to use it to deliver conditions or to interrupt using choking gas or the like. Really all that marksmanship allows you to do is to boost the damage from your bow, and without the ability to spam ranger attacks you're relying on the preparations for damage anyway - you can't afford to put a penetrating attack out every 4 seconds, a ranger can.
Anyway, play it how you will; the fact is that you will likely find your points too spread out and you will be compromising your damage output on the bow to use the buffs. The base DPS from a bow at level 12 marksmanship, fully customised etc.. is only about 3 DPS more than a wand does. Without the special attacks and such it is therfore not much better, and if you drop your marksmanship to 9 or lower you'll be doing worse. Even at the point where the wand and bow are breaking even the preparations add to your damage, but with the abilities so spread out is it worth the extra damage? I doubt it. You are sacrificing a lot by giving up your soul reaping and your blood/curse damage to get some mediocre bow damage - you also sacrifice you energy from a focus item.

As above posters said, don't bother with the ranger line of marksmanship. I personally have a N/R myself and use a pet. So I only invest points in the Beastmastery line...the rest in Death/Blood/Curse depending on the mission and situation.
I also tried investing in Wilderness Survival and found the use of Serpent's Quickness to be useful for spamming Necro spells...since most of them have long recharge time.

I have decided I will take out my marksmanship and put it in my curses/blood magic. Unfortunately before I can do that I have to go adventuring for a new wand.
