Have you benefited from a solo player

There has been alot of talk lately about the pro's and con's of folks soling various parts of the game. Most of the attention lately has been on the 105/55 monk, however there are are worthwhile builds known for soloing parts of the game. This got me to thinking............. How mnay folks have benifited from the genrosity of a solo player either through them giving away items to you, or your guild, or selling to you a a cheaper then going rate. This is not asking if you have been the giver of ssuch items, but if you have been on the recieving end of those who have benifited from doing solo runs.........

I've had guildmates take me with them to the UW so I can get more XP for more skill points and I've done that with my monk for others. Its nice being able to unlock every skill in the game in a reasonable time. Its even nicer when your whole guild has every skill unlocked and can finally start PVPing correctly.

People seem to keep forgetting if they've been run ANYWHERE (say Beacons -> Drok, or LA->BHS->ToA) that they were benefitting from a "solo" player as well. It wasn't a monk solo player, but a warrior or ranger that could do an entire area "by themselves (solo)".

when I was working on getting the runes for my solo build(back when they cost 60+ plat each) another Mo/Wa in the Grotto and I were talking about swapping in and out certain skills to be able to solo certain areas. Right before he signed off he gave me the two Superior Runes I needed to complete the build...I thought that was pretty cool. I tried to offer him all the gold I had for them but he said he didn't want them. Said "you gave me an idea for yadda yadda yadda....so you can have them".

I think this is more of a rarely seen aspect and, now that I think of it, yes I have benifited from soloers. If anet really wants this fixed then they should do something so pve characters have a chance at getting some good items for a change.

Not exactly a material benefit, but having a character designed to solo DID help me to a certain degree. I think it was my second time in the UW that a semi-completed smiting monk was taking all of the aggro from the very strong monsters there. By staying back and casting from outside my aggro bubble, I was able to stay alive a lot longer than I would have if that monk wasn't there. Whenever someone else in the group managed to attract a monster's attention, he/she died very quickly, ran around for his life, or led the monster to another player who died just as quickly.

At the end, it was the smiting monk, my necro, and a mesmer (I think). The mesmer eventually aggroed some monsters which he ran away from and eventually led to me. Needless to say, I died quickly. The mesmer died shortly thereafter. The smiting monk was the last to die, although slower than anyone else. I had been helping him survive up to the point that I died by using enfeebling blood and other skills. All other times I have gone to UW (not more than 2 or 3 times, unfortunately), groups with non-smiting monks have perished very quickly. I haven't tried going back to UW after that.

I farmed a max clean fellblade and tried to sell it in ToA. Nobody wanted to buy it until i said i was about to salvage it.
A fellow farmer approached me and traded me a max gold holy rod with +3 energy>50 for the fellblade. EXACTLY what i had been looking for for weeks.
All i said was "Give us 'something' for the sword"

Other times, i give stuff away or at massive discounts.

A few days ago, i went to the northern wall and gave a ranger some nice non-max gold bows and gave a warrior an assortment of items.

It's nice to be able to give players a decent kick-start in this game (not that it's needed) but at least they will know from the beginning that decent people do exist in this sometimes "annoying" playerbase.

I think this is an aspect of the solo players (monks since they have been talked about so much lately) that the complainers either are mad cause they havent found any good deals or I am more inclined to think that it would mean that they can no longer sell their "uber leet" gold blahblahblah for 300k.

Back around my first run through the game. I was a lowly level 13 monk and i teamed up with a level 19 ranger for mysterious message.

We did it with no henchies, his bow, and my lowly healing skills.

It kinda opened my eyes to the fact that just becuse you can take 6 or 8 people doesn't mean you need to. Also changed the way i approach my ranger. I changed from a ranged damage dealer who would ping enemies that are pummeling me to someone who uses stances to fade and move and take down monsters with a minimum of damage from melee.

The truth is everyone has. The soloers put a lot of supply into a market with a lot of demand. They got a lot of personal gain, but they also caused money to be worth more by replacing many players' excess money with raw materials. This deflation allowed poor people to buy more stuff.

I've given stuff to guildies and such, and occasionally to people i'm grouped with who seem cool but where I really have been generous was when selling things to strangers. Mainly because I hate doing it. It drives me insane having to deal with people, because of how people behave when it comes to trading.

1.)if the stranger is selling, that stranger wants to eek out every last gold that he thinks the item could possibly be worth. This includes crazy sales to people who botted/ebayed vast amounts of gold and dont care that they are paying 20x the item's value. If he sold that sup rune once for 90k, that sets the price for all future sales.

2.)if that same stranger is buying the item, He wont be happy unless he thinks hes getting the deal of the century on every single purchase he makes. This manifests it's self in the rediculous (and extremely irratating to me) haggling attempts. For example, I'm selling a superior vigor rune, the trader wants 88, most of the folks around are trying to sell for 80, so I set my price to 70k and advertise. Selling rune, 70k, 18k less than trader..

Stranger: how much for that rune.
me:70k, 18k less than at the trader
Stranger: 18k Great! meet me at storage.
me: No, 70k, 18k less than what the trader wants which is 88k.
stranger:20k?
/ignore

Most of the time I set a price a little lower than the average I see things being sold for in the interest of being done with selling, yet still have to be subjected to conversations like this.

Selling this item! 5k FIRM!
stranger:how about 3k?
me:How about 5k like I advertised.
strangerh ok, how about 4.5k
/ignore

Its maddening. I usually end up just changing districts and selling the item dirt cheap just to be rid of it. So in that round about way i've been quite generous.

I think everyone is capable of being an asshole at some time, however what I was hoping to find it that there are a good chunck of solo builds out there that are truely giving back to the comunity, and not just being greedy for themselves.

Having a friend who uses the UW solo build and it's nice when he lets go along. Sped things up for both of us, and we always had time to chat to one another.

Plus now I have a fair amount of gold in the stash, I don't mind covering the platinum to enter the FoW or UW. Makes the group happy so why not?
