pvp chars - Locked for new players
Makkert
I want to propose that new players that just start the game, can't make a pvp character.
I find them popping up, asking questions like 'how do i start this game?' and after some talk over and forth it appears that they are looking for the pve content and not the 'start mission' button.
Also, if they create a caster and run in arena's without skills it is pretty painfull experience.
Therefor I suggest: unlock the use of PvP CUSTOM (premades are available) characters only after they have reached post-searing.

ps: now, let's see if Relambrien Divino can find this thread like he promised...

If those people aren't smart enough to make a simple choice at the start screen , TOUGH. They'll get over it in 5 mins, no need to lock anything.

they also put a strain on good folks that are willing to answer questions, but are faced with q's like this we don't want to see.
Mithie
It's not gonna happen.
When faced with a question like that, just tell them to rtfm.

Biggest problem with this game as a whole:
You don't wanna see.
Frankly I am not sure how much that really matters at all. If anet felt the constant bitching and moaning from people who "don't wanna see" then it would be changed to reflect the fact it MATTERS.
Not gonna happen.

unlock after completing the game once, or stricter

Solution: Either tell them or don't, doesn't need a game change.

And I guess you all started this game knowing ALL the answers and are just as smart as can be. Locking PVP is stupid IMO since Anet is leaning so heavy on it. Plus with it locked, no one with a new account or anyone for that matter could just go make a PvP character. Personally I have no interest in PvP but some people made PvP characters only, thats all they want to do with the game. Maybe the simple thing to do is perhaps have a couple of simple questions to follow for people to click on to reach the right place they wanna go. Kinda like Bloodlines, a series of questions to be answered by those who don't know what kind of character they wanna be. But no locking it.

all cool.
altough i don't see why anyone with NO skills unlocked have any use for making a pvp char Mavrik.
but i'm sure you know.

Some people don't mind playing with the pre-mades, in which case it wouldn't make a lick of difference to them if they started playing PvP before unlocking any skills...

I mind getting half my team in random arenas as premades. Not a real big deal and ANET has more important things to do, but I would still like to see this some day.

I would rather see the PVP starting characters atleast have all the Pre Searing Skills unlocked.
It would give them the same feeling for the game that the tutorial does. You can to use some skills, fight in PVP and get a feel for the game. It seems odd that you arent even able to get in a new PVP character what you can get after 2 hours in Pre.

The game is advertised as being able to jump into PvP right away. If they changed it, that'd be a blatant, right-out, no semantics cop-out contradiction. (as opposed to some other issues where people have different perspectives. This one's a black-and-white case: Either you can PvP from the moment it's on your PC or you can't. And you want the latter.)
If you don't like them, don't play with them. Team Arenas, Tombs, and Guild vs Guild are all structured forms of PvP for you.

I dont like this idea at all. Sorry, but some people bought this game only to play PvP. There is nothing wrong w/ being a noob. Everybody learns how to play the game later. Asking questions... of course if they dont know how to play it they will ask questions. This thing does not only happen in PvP. Newbies will aggro enemies and run back to the team and get all slaughtered. They may be annoying but the game was made for all.

Reading to some comments, I see some valid points. I agree that it is advertised as pvp from the box, and that some love pre-mades.
That should be kept.
So i'll adjust the proposal a bit:
Making a CUSTOM pvp char should be locked until you have reached post searing with your first char.
And no, I have no problems with newbies. However letting someone lose without any skills in pvp seems.....well silly. I don't have a problem with newbies. The players i'm referring to are the ones that are incapable with their char to do anything in pvp. and i do mean anything but walking. I know, its stupid from their side, but i'm a fan of idiotproof things.

Idiotproof things... <insert some quote about idiotproof things here>
Locking custom pvp characters seems viable. I wouldn't agree to Post-Searing, as some people do the Secondary Profession quest first and blow through the Academy, thus leaving them at Post-Sear with few skills. It should be more based on skills unlocked or some other reasonable measure of training/competence.

I choose post searing ,since Ascalon has an arena and then they know where they actually can get skills...The way you suggest may cause confusion though...Still good suggestion.

This game advertises for instant action (grind-free) and also advertises to be made for competition (PvP).
Some premade builds are decent and if I'm interpreting your post as saying you want to dump all the "newbies" in PvE so there aren't many in PvP... which is just wrong.
