Class-specific forums

Does anyone know any sites that have forums dedicated to the different classes? I'd like to chat with other elementalists about the different skills/ build combonations.

I was about to post a message requesting profession specific forums. It would sure help. You could find information about skills, how to use items, etc. I am building another Ranger, and would like to know what weapons are best for the Ranger. I always (of course) use a bow, armor, sword with shield.

We are currently debating whether we should add such forums or not.

I was wondering if it might be possible to have each class have its own forum. In other games I've played like Planetside, SWG, and EQII (many others too) there was a forum for each individual profession or class. This keeps class specific questions contained in one area, and stops people from spamming class questions in the general question area.

Merged your post Calpyso - the exact same suggestion was the newest post in this category!

It's a great idea, it would keep alot of the content currently thrown about the site in a specific area.
Would you want classes by primary only, or actually have a forum for each class combo?

Each combo would be too many - it would be for primary profession.

What are the chances of linking the class faq's directly on each class forum?
Elimating some of the clutter in the Q & A forum.
It would really make the new forums more user friendly.

Hmmm.. well last night and this morning I looked, the class specific boards were there. The setup was great and I'm sure it would encourage more discussion on class-builds. Any idea what happened to them?

It was a really good idea..then for some reason it appears the admins got rid of them.

It was a very short term experiment.
Actually, there were some concerns about how such fora would work on a game with dual classed characters, and almost immediately some of the problems manifested. For example, the essentially duplicated threads between the Ranger and Warrior fora discussing R/W and W/R characters.
Now, I know some would say, "Just make them primary profession fora." Alas, that doesn't really make sense in this game. There's usually precious little difference between an X/Y and a Y/X in this game. It doesn't really make sense to split the discussion of issues common between X/Y and Y/X (which is to say, 98% of them) between two different fora, which is exactly what started happening the moment we created the separate fora.
Also, when a group of R/E's start discussing Elementalist issues in the Ranger forum, they're usually going to spend their time talking about issues that are relevant to all Elementalists. So, even though you might be a W/E, you'll have to wade through the Ranger forum to get all the information that's relevant to your character. Indeed, you would need to read all six of the fora, because they all might have information relevant to your character. But that's not at all obvious from the forum titles, indeed they implied the opposite. Most people wouldn't take the time to read all six, wouldn't even realize that they really need to, and thus they would be denied large amounts of information relevant to them. This site is about getting people more information, not hiding it from them, but that's exactly what would happen, indeed was happening, with class-specific fora.
So now it's back to one forum, so we can keep stuff like this together and you don't have to wade through multiple fora to find the info relevant to your character.
I was actually a supporter of this idea, until I saw it in action. It didn't take long to see it wasn't going to work out, and that it would create bigger problems than it solved. In a game where everyone is dual classed, and has to work on teams with people of other classes, splitting the discussion into separate areas does everyone more harm than good.
As this is no longer an open question, I'm closing this thread. Thanks for the suggestions, it wasn't a bad idea per se, it just doesn't really work in practice due to the nature of this game. Don't let the fact that this one didn't work out discourage you, keep up the good ideas! We're always looking for new suggestions.
