Looking for build avice

im thinking of a war/monk and theres tons of advice for plenty of builds i
like this build cause i can be a warrior and have some healing powers

i like war/monk but war/ran appeals to me more but im new and dont understand the advantages of the ranger secondary. with monk i know im using the healing abilities but if i go ranger what is it im looking for

my play style is to deal damage and have fun ive never liked casting as of yet which is why i would like to try war/ran so any advice would help
