I've been talking to some ignorant ppl in this game who called me a noob, and a f-ing noob, just because I think that the Collector's Bow in mineral Springs with Max damage and +15% above 50% hp is just as good as any super duper golden bow. Think about it. It's same speed as Long bow or somth like that. It got Godly Stats. Especially is I up it with perfect upgrades. I can make the best bow in the game from this baby. So what if it's not yellow, or "GOLD" as ppl who called me a noob poined out. Jeez get a life. Flaming me just cause I said yellow instead of GOLD??? Now if I'm wrong, correct me, and I'll shut up. But if you ignore the GOLD color and the cool looks of storm bows and etc, this collector item is the best you can get IMHO. I think that ppl who called me a noob are REAL noobs. Not me.

Only n00bs use equipment because it's good. The real pros know that this is a game about looking good, not being good.

That's the silliest thing I ever heared. If you care so much about looking good, why dont you join some dress up show? Or become a fashion designer? This game and all competitive games are about being good. If your ranger look like a dress up doll, and I own you with my collector bow in 5 secs, that dont make you a good dueler does it? Last time I checked GW was about battling and PvPing more that it is about PvE. HOH is where it's all at. Everyone says that. Your cool looks wont help you in win in HOH. Mabe in a beauty contest. But skills, quick reflexes and a good bow will.

Duh.

Peace

PS: oh and off course I agree that skill beats equipment here. But good equip helps.

Sub Par??? It's 2 sec or 2.5... that's same as flat or long bow. Is it not?

I just picked one up like this in the desert. Its got the range 80 range of the Composite or Hornbow category (vs. 100 for longbow/flatbow types and 60 for shortbow). I havent had a chance to really figure out the re-fire rate and flight time yet to narrow it down between the two, but I'm guessing its Composite class.

I usually prefer a longbow for poisoning/pulling, but I went ahead and threw on a 2k poisoners string and a 1-2k +20hp grip and customized it. Average damage for unmoded max damage bow is something around 21.5 points per shot. With +15% for health > 50% and 20% for customization the average pushes up to 29 per shot.

I think this is a deal compared to paying some chump 30k plats for something not as good just because its *GOLD!!!*, plus I had fun hunting up the componets to get it.

Only issue might be, I don't think you can salvage items from collector bows (or is it quest reward weapons? or both?).

I believe the collector bow in Mineral Springs is a shortbow isn't it? Meaning high fire rate, low range.

No you cannot salvage, i think, but why bother when u can simply replace as many times as u need? Just give it a good thought before putting in anything.

Ahhh... At least someone agrees with me.
Ok ok.. Mabe it's not the best you can have. But with good upgrades, one of the best 4 sure. And it was fun and challenfing obtaining the components for it for me as well.

There is a bunch of threads on bows, what's good for what and there is even a guide in this sites' homepage with stats on bows etc..

There is also a lot of discussions on what looks good or not as well...

Do a search and find out if you are a noob or not ?

Lots of wrong info too.

Some examples:

Quote:
Called Shot, Favorable Winds, Quick Shot (Elite), and Read the Wind will make the Arc size approximately the same as the Low arc of a Composite Bow.
What the hell is Quickshot doing in that list?

Quote:
* Damage +1-20% (while health is above 50%)
That would be +1-15% (while health is above 50%).

The +20% is only for health below 50%.

Quote:
* The two Interrupt preparations, Incindiary Arrows (Elite) and Choking Gas. Both of them have the disadvantage of having short durations, and thus having Practiced Stance (Elite) would be beneficial.
Except one can't use Incendiary Arrows together with Practice Stance, seing as they're both elite. So I'm not quite sure what's the point of mentioning Practiced Stance as a way to extend Incediary Arrows duration.

Quote:
Practiced Stance (Elite) is a way to get more bang for your preparation buck. It lowers the casting time of preparations (meh) and lengthens the duration (yay!).
Practiced stance does nothing to the cast time of preparations. It affects the recycle time and the length of duration.

Quote:
* Kindle Arrows and Ignite Arrows are similar in scope (adds fire damage). Ignite Arrows does less damage, but applies the damage over an area. Kindle Arrows does more damage and cost less. It is difficult to ponder which one is better, as it is entirely situational.
They are infact quite different. Kindle turns all of one's damage into fire damage. Ignite does not, it simply adds on the extra fire damage. This is very important for interaction with skills like Weaken Armor, Winnowing, Judge's Insight, Mark of Pain, Barbs, etc.

Quote:
Practiced Stance (Elite) is ... incompatible with the stances
Except it is compatible. One only needs to have PS up when the preparation finishes casting. After that, knock yourself out, use any other stance. PS already did it's job.

Seems the author just looked at skil descriptions, when writing that "FAQ".

Isn't the collector bow from the hydra-claw-collecting guy between Augury and Destiny a short bow as well? I picked it up recently and it seems to behave exactly like the shortbow I was using previously. I know it's not a long bow, since you have to be well within the aggro bubble to hit. In any case, there might be two collectors that qualify as "outside Augury" and that's why I'm getting confused. Your "outside Augury" might mean, literally, the collector that stands just outside the gate of town.

Just thought I'd mention something, 'cause to me killing Hydras is far easier than killing Avicara. I can do one solo on my ranger (and thus not miss those claw drops), and the other I'm fairly certain would shred me.

Even though he was joking, he is right about something. When you get uber gold items, it is to show off. Noone is spending 500 mil just to do some damage... Personally, I never got collector's items because I thought of them as "cheating", in a way. Getting the best items without having to try is kinda dumb to me. Still, I don't run around flaming that people are noobs for using collector's items. Usually, I think of them as a par above, some of the people get gold because they don't even know about collector's.

I think collector's is better in most cases, besides melee weapons. I don't recall there being 15>50 axes/swords/hammers.

Sorry, that is incorrect. I got me a whole bunch of these babies (collector on the north gate of Augury Rock), but they turned out to be 80' range bows similar to the composite bow. To get the real longbow, you gotta head out to Arid Sea and trade in dune burrower jaws for Ascalon bows (yes, all with the same name, different properties though). Here is how you test what you got: Walk up to a target on a similar level as you (i.e. not on top of a hill and not way down below you in a valley). Target with "C" and "Space" to fire. If you start shooting when the target is still way out of your agro bubble, it's a longbow. When I say way out of the agro bubble, I mean a clear separation of target and agro bubble, e.g. 3/16 of an inch (tricky to describe due to the variety of screens out there). If you start shooting right at the edge of the agro bubble (i.e. the target touches or just about touches the agro bubble), it's an 80' bow.

I think thers two collector bows in mineral springs, one is composite and one is short. Also... gold max items can have min req's of 8, instead of 9, and I believe some have a req of as low as 4 for only 1 off max damage. Nice for powerleveling or use in Ascalon Arena's.

Can anyone confirm that the horn bow has a natural 10% armor penetration? I hear rumors from multiple sites, but the actual bows dont say...

Btw...there is a nice looking horn bow out there, but 99,999% are the ugly sticks.

They are all the collector bows with damage over 50%hp.

So far i have the short bow from Mourn Drakespur, the Composite bow from John Verado and my gf has the longbow from Sir Pohl.

They all work just as well, if not better, than the rest of my bows.
(including 2 short bows and a storm bow)

FWIW, there is a Defensive Bow of Ascalon with similar properties to the other Ascalon bows and adds +4 armor.

When I bought it, I wasnt told it was a collectors bow and have, unfortunetly seen folks trying to sell the same for 10K+. I don't know anything about the difficulty of collecting said items, but that seems a biut steep to me.

i have the 3 different 15>50 bows from the desert.. I like them because 15>50 gold bows are like 50k+

I'd rather spend 40k on a superior vigor or something.
