today i thought it would be fun to make a mesmer/monk because not that many people play that combo... i planed on being a fast cast healer, but once i got to lvl 8 i just lost interest in it,i dont think it will be the kind of character i want to play or that it will be that effective unless im with a party full of warriors or elementalists...

i want to make a monk/??? now b/c i love the healing aspect. what would be a good secondary for healing, and what would be a good secondary for fighting? just wondering...

Depends on your goals. Btw, glad you ditched your "Fast cast healer" because w/ no div favor and with no advantage of having energy storage... Well, lets just say its ineffective.

Good Secondaries for healing:

Elementalist: Can use Glyph of lesser energy to cast big cost spells like Healing Seed, Heal Party, Aegis, etc. Also, you can run a utility prot that uses both glyphs (elite and regular lesser energy) and run like Prot Spirit, Aegis, Heal Party, Healing Seed. Utility prot monk is more useful for PvP in my opinion.

Mesmer: Using channeling for Alter PvP maps. Or you can use drains to fuel your character's energy. Things like drain enchantment, energy tap, and of course, mantra of xxx for PvP if necessary. (certain builds center around damage conversion, but maybe not now w/ recent nurfs). This may be more useful for PvP matches as well.

Good Secondary for Fighting:

I don't know why you would want to use a monk to fight but... Warrior is good (obviously). If your goal is for smiting for PvP, E/Mo is the way to go. Being a Mo primary smiter is counter-productive in my opinion, unless you want to solo 105/55 but thats up to you to find out about.

That should get you started. The rest is for you to figure out, especially because most of this is down to user preference.

The only reason to be a /mo healer is that you don't get targeted first. The fact that you aren't targeted first helps A LOT

I'd probably go with mesmer secondary for channeling/energy drain/inspired hex and possibly hex breaker.

This isnt exactly a great secondary but it is allot of fun, monk ranger.

With a longbow you can attack from a distance if all your party are at full health.

If things get messy just get back to healing. Its kind of a strange build but i've had allot of fun with it

Why is this in gladiator's arena? Shouldn't this be in the campfire?

Good secondaries are Mo/Me for inspiration (mainly channelling is good in PvE) and hex removal, and Mo/W for defensive stances. Mo/E is also decent because of reasons in the second post.

Mo/Me is undoubtedly the best combo for healing. There is a gigantic pool of skills (inspiration) to keep your energy going. Some specialized builds use other professions for secondary, depending on the strategy.

Mo/A are becoming popular because of their ability to use return when enemies are mobbing them.

Mo/N are also good for pve because of skills such as life syphon, parasitic bond, and other life stealing skills.

For a combat monk, I would go Mo/W. The stances warriors have can be amazing on a monk (bonettis defense comes to mind). Mo/P might also be quite useful, i havent tried it yet but I imagine there are a few cool ways to play it.

Hope that helped.

Life Siphon? Doesn't that need all your energy and half your points to be effective? wth shard o.O

Monk/Ranger with a pet is GREAT fun .

Monk/Necro is a lovely combo, as well. You can either go Blood for Wells and such or Curses for a little defense. I had a healing monk very successfully finish Prophecies without capping any monkly elites (still boggled about that - didn't realize it til NF and the heroes!) who had Spiteful Spirit firmly on her skillbar. Of course, she was a Celtic monk, and so having a bit o' ladylike cursing was completely in character .

Mo/Me for my healer, because of the energy boost.

Mo/N for my smiter, because he could dance on the bodies of his enemies, and then turn them into minions. Of course, nobody wants a smiter in the group, so he lead a rather lonely life.
