Is it so hard to believe that some1 just doesnt want to be in a guild?

I just left my guild beacuse I got fed up with some of the people. Not going to say what guild or who but, thats not important.

What is imsportant is that I play the game and I have no guild. And I am constantly being pestered to join guilds. And its not just people asking me to join, which I can understand -- guilds need to recruit. What is annoying is when people ask me to join I respectfully say basically "not interested" or "Waiting to see how it goes in fall semeter before i join a guild," which is true. I have always been a clan/team/guild/faction/whatever kind of guy, and I always hated when people would join and leave out of the blue, which is what I am trying to avoid. A new semester and new classes means a new sleep work schedule.

But that doesn't seem to be good enough for people. They start like, either begging (which is a clear sign of a crap guild) or saying "well, you dont need to be here all the time, blah blah blah." At that point, I have to stop myself from saying "look, i was trying to be nice, but I dont want to join your crap guild."

Then there are the people who are mystified that I am not in a guild, and ask me why. Which is usually followed by "well, my guild is recruiting."

And finally are the constant random invites when I am running around town just because I am a monk.

All I am saying is that you do not have to be in a guild to enjoy the game. Just because people feel required to do so doesn't mean that everybody wants to be in a guild. And if I wanted a cape (which I think looks stupid) I would make my own guild because it only costs what, 3k or something.

Anyone else being constantly badgered to join guilds?

lol yeah I have a R/Mo that gets invites constantly some are just random invites and others are ppl talking to me for a few secs. Pretty much guaranteed when I do a quest with a PuG to get at least 2 invites from it.

just spend 100 gold and form your own guild :P

but I do feel your pain. I remember when I was guildless I'd have a dozen or so guild invites at a time before I rejected them... would have people msg'ing me and begging me to join (like I'd join them.. I agree with the OP here.. if they have to beg, their guild is rubbish).. I've also had people telling me that you couldn't get to post-searing without a guild and I should join them (yeah right!).. as well as the people mystified that I'm not in a guild.

got jacked off enough and created my own guild. However, the guild I created is from another game which I still play.. and the guild is active there.. heh

but yeah.. all the damned annoying random guild invites are a real pain. Especially when they send invites and never even message you. Makes me sorta laugh tho at ppl in cities saying "nice & friendly guild looking for members""... or something similar. Thing is with those guilds.. generally they might have quite a few players.. but the guild means nothing to it's members.. they were just randomly recruited.. heh.. not my idea of a fun guild to be in :P

That's what I did. The blind invites were starting to get to me as well. I couldn't walk 15 feet without having to go through the whole, "hey" -> "hello" -> "would you be interested in joining a guild?" -> "....ugh" routine. One night, some kid kept BEGGING me to join his guild. He even wanted to "mack me an officer". At that point I just said screw it and spent the 100 gold. I'm not joining a PvP guild that cares more about increasing their numbers instead of taking time to look for serious PvP players. I don't need a guild for PvE. I've been through the game 4 times already. I know all there is to know about PvE up to this point. I'm more than willing to help other PvE'ers without having to join their guild.

Ego Bruise, albeit a cool name, is at this point a guild of one until I get into a more PvP mood than I am now. (I'd still rather play multiplayer FPS than GW.) I'll make my mark in PvP before too long. This game isn't exactly rocket science, you know.

Yea, drove me nuts also, PvE only and prefer to go with the henchies. I finally caved and payed the 100g for my own guild (One of Many). Didn't plan on a cape to begin with but ended up making one, nothing better for the 2 plat and I like my cape. I guess at some point I'll also get bored and purchase a guild hall, at least last time I looked a sigil wasn't *that* expensive. Then I'll own my own island, too bad Anet doesn't let me junk it up (lots of useless crappy drops randomly placed) and other people visit it. Would rock to have my own redneckified island paradise to show off

I've never bothered to join any guild and I have never had a problem with people pestering me to join theirs. If they ask, I say no and no one has ever made an issue of it. Any random invites I get I just leave them there. I find it amusing to press G and see a mess of guild invites.

Nah, I know a lot of people who don't have a guild just because they're not into it. (Also...a guild in this game doesn't really mean jack shit. So you get to participate in insanely small-scale 8vs8 GvG...big deal), there aren't really many benefits. If you like a cape, sure it's alright, if you're REALLY REALLY into small GvG matches fine, other than that it's just a tag. I can really understand a lot of reasons why people wouldn't want a guild, sometimes it's just easier to be a loner.

I only have that problem when playing my Monk. My Nec and Mez sure don't get invites, and my War only occasionally. I even had someone BEGGING and offering me all the gold he had, (7k...) to join his guild after I got his REALLY BAD team through Thunderhead.

Add me to the list of folks who got tired of dealing with guild invites and so formed my own guild just for me. Besides, I wanted to design my own cape.

I even got bored enough to buy my own Guild Hall (Wizard's) so now whenever I want to revisit the pre-searing Ascalon landscape I just go and wander around my little island. Decidedly one of the sillier purchases I've made.

Again...the same...I formed a guild of ...me.

On my very first evening of Guild Wars I was one of the randomly chosen to be harassed about joining a guild and followed about the town with "you'll be sorry you didn't" etc. messages. I just turned off local chat until I could afford the cape. Since then I've had no random requests.

I would disagree about a guild being of not much use though. I've recently joined a guild (one that I don't even speak the language of most of the members!). I was asked to join after a few weeks of playing with a couple of the founders in PvE co-op who I first met in a PUG. They were great to play with, no aggression, swearing, name-calling, blaming everyone else for their own death. The monk apologised for not keeping me alive when I did something stupid! I accepted.

The advantages I find are mostly that it makes the game (it IS still only a game) fun again. Playing with a group that you can rely on to support each other, helping lower levels complete difficult missions, or creating a new character from scratch removes much of the tedium of the un-randomness of quests/missions.

It's also great to be able to go with your guild directly to the UW without spending ages trying to form a group that doesn't get killed in 3 minutes because everyone wants to do it a different way, or no-one has the patience to wait for the monk to recover energy, or the trapper to trap. This being important when Europe doesn't have favour so often ;-) Most of the time I don't even understand what they're saying, but I know they know my job and they let me do it, as I do theirs.

I've hated clans (guilds) ever since I started playing Quake and UT. The competetiveness that (imo) is natural in a physical environment which allows for a release of tension through physical exertion, when transfered to the usually inert pc-gamer is generally expressed by twitching fingers and flapping tongues. My 11 year old daughter was playing SW Battlefront last week and when killed matter-of-factly said "Oh, I've died again...maybe if next time I try....". Would that the majority of gamers had a similar attitude.

A guild however can be just a group of friends that are fun to play with, and a way to try PvP without the usual stress and aggravation.

Every single guild I've been with, with the exception of one, the leaders made absolutely no effort to connect with each and every member of the guild. How is that supposed to inspire loyalty? One guild was absolutely terrible, they *only* spoke over Vent, including idle conversation, and I prefer to listen to Winamp. I think I got the boot from that guild: I told them I was busy when they were forming a tombs group and there weren't enough other members on for a full group. Like I give a crap about the boot. Why should I care about them when they don't care about me?

But yeah, random invites are pretty annoying. Doesn't seem to matter which character I'm playing as (Me/N/R), I get blind invites or random tells. My roommate gets tons of invites, he thinks anyone wearing 15k armor is more likely to get invites (my Me and R have 15k armor as well as his warrior). It's too bad that recruiters are too ignorant to realize that getting members that way (inviting people you don't even know) makes a crap guild.

I had an amusing conversation with a recruiter about a week ago. I was feeling nice so I told them that asking people to join that you don't even know is is not a good way to recruit. I asked him how he knew I wasn't a moron/scammer/douche? And he said that I didn't seem like the type. How did he know? He just sent a random tell to a person with a RP sounding name. He wanted to know how I was going to scam the guild and didn't understand that maybe his guild didn't want to be known for harboring douches like that. After all that trying to put a seed of doubt in his mind that maybe I am a scammer (which I'm not), he still tries to recruit me for his guild.

I can only see "PvE only" players wanting to stay in their own guild. If you like PvP at all and aren't in a GvGing guild you are missing out on 50-65% of it and 75% of the fun

So... You guys want to join a guild!? WE HAVE CAPES AND WEBSITE ON MSN GROUPS!!

I'm the leader of a guild, but I don't go around and spam it, first I party with characters and then if I think they seem fitted for the guild as in a similair play style etc.. I friendly ask them if they're interested in joining, but blind invites suck as hell.

It comes down to plain common sense and decency for me. If people spam me invites randomly I just ignore them....if they haven't got the guts/decency to ask me directly then it doesn't bode well for their guild setup does it?

If people just took a little time and effort to have a quick chat first they would be doing everyone a favour. They are also more likely to get somebody serious about being a good team player in their guild too.

But further to the OP about being hassled, well, same applies. Their guild must be pretty dodgy. It is annoying tho, being pestered like that. I went a period of time where I was perfectly happy not being in a guild but people just can't accept it....sigh

I used to spam invites for my guild early in the game until I realized that this is just a waste of time. 9 out of 10 times that person would leave right away anyway, so it's better to make friends with someone first...the more friendly approach.

The only guild I've joined (and not regretted) is my current one. After I finished the game with first character, the other Monk from the PUG asked if I wanted to join a capeless PvE guild (and no cape means no hall).

That's what intrigued me. It was a refreshing change from the other invites where all they had to offer were capes and a useless hall. This guild is actually very useful, since all the players help each other out with quests for my newer characters, as well as trading useful items and upgrades.

I don't want to be in a guild because I don't like capes...I know that sounds crazy to most of you...but I really like to see the back of my armor ok...if you could have the option to wear the guild cape or be able to take it off when you want that would be cool...so in the mean time I just created a guild for myself (one person guild) so that I wouldn't get those pesky guild invites all the time.

Yeh, I wasn't to thrilled with a guild idea until one of my friend approached me with an offer I couldn't refuse:

"Hey Dac, I've been appointed officer in the guild I'm in, you want to join?"

I said "Sure, why not?". And there I am, PvE guy in a PvP guild Oh well, the guildies are nice...

i had the same problem. couldn't go anywhere with my mo/r without getting blind guild invites from people i'd never even spoken to. if i don't recognize the name, why do you think i'm going to accept a guild invte? i spent the 100 g and made my own guild K Thx Bye. then whenever i saw someone begging in local chat (and usually spamming the begging) WANT TO JOIN GUILD ACTIVE OMG LET ME JOIN PM ME i'd send them an invite, then when they would join i'd say "kthxbye" in guild chat and kick them. only did that to a couple people before i decided it was wrong, so i joined a fledgling guild a long-time friend of mine was starting.

if you don't want to make your own guild (a friend of mine made OMFG - One Man Fun Guild ) you can always just ignore the guild window. i'd imagine there's a limit to the number of guild invites you can have at any given time. just let the inbox fill up like aol email.
