My name was taken?!

So I'm all excited to play Guild Wars with my permanant character and I find out that my character is nowhere to be found and someone else has taken the name. I pre-ordered the game and made this character before so therefore I should still have the name reserved for myself. What can I do about this?

If you pre-ordered it your character should be sitting at the log-in screen staring at you. When did you get a "name already taken" error?

When I noticed my name gone I tried to make him again, thats when I got the error.

[Edit: nevermind......] characters to pass minimum length requirement

Thank you. Your character name will be reserved for up to an hour. Did you try and create him right after deleting the original character? If so, no one will have been able to steal your name but there may be a bug where it will not even allow you to choose that name for the next 60 minutes.

In summary, the error came up after I tried to create him again just now.

are you refering to a paid preorder or did you get a
friends pass
a BWE code from someplace else
etc?

I pre-ordered the game myself and used that key. I gave the friend key away.

there is litterally nothing to do

you might wait an hour or so and try it again but if it still comes up unavailable somehow someone else got it

also you would have to come up with names for the other ones you create anyway

Did you make the mistake of registering a new account when you got the full game? If so, then your preorder account will still have the characters you made in beta and so you won't be able to use their names unless you log into that account and delete them.
If it's the same account I don't know what went wrong.

That's what I was thinking. If you made a new account instead of adding your retail key to your pre-order account, then your character still exists on the pre-order account. If you did that, I would delete all the characters on the pre-order account and re-create them after an hour.

To my knowledge you had to play your character on at least two BWEs for your name to be permanently reserved. Means: If you created your character on one BWE and then didn't play on any other BWE with the same character it more than likely got erased.

Sounds to me like what happened was somthing more obvious. Maby Arenanet didn't like your name and erased it and put it in their filter. They can do that without warning. I garentee this is the case especially if Wenis Lord was the name of your character.

Gaile said all accounts would be kept at least a few weeks before deletion
