depends... Gladiator is good, because of the energy bonuses.

Dragon has higher AL

Knights has reduced damage.

Platemail also has reduced damage

The best armor combination is your +1 to weapon attribute Helm, Glad's Chest, Glad's Legs, Glad's Gaunts (or Stonefist if you use hammer), and Knight's Boots.

You only need one piece of Knight's armor to get the global -2 damage reduction, which will stack with your absorption rune. So if you have a superior absorption rune, that's -5 damage (plus any -dmg from your shield).

I heard that Stoneskin doesn't work with Backbreaker...can anyone confirm/reject this?

Yes, stonefists do not add knockdown time to backbreaker.

Gladiator's Hauberk
Gladiator's Leggings
Knight's Boots
Stonefist Gauntlets if you're a hammer warrior
Weapon Mastery +1 Helm

= best.

YOu ever figured out that absorption works ONLY if the piece it's on is hit? The boots, helm and gloves are least likely to be hit, so i don't see your logic there. It's a pretty simple concept, cos they wouldn't have put reduced damage on every piece if only 1 was useful would they? So whatever armour you think you like the stats and look of.

Absorption on armor is global; it's been tested many times, I've tested it for myself. Whether this was intentional or an oversight on Anet's part, we don't know. So what Eonwe and Weezer posted is correct for the most efficient build. Unforunately there is no 15k Knight's, so if you want 15k armor you'll have to go with Ascalon boots.

It's a definite mistake i reckon. Hmmm, time to nerf this cos it's making that combo kinda overpowered.

I've got 15k Gladiator's Armor with a 15k Ascalon Helm. Works for me.
And I change between Stoneskin Gauntlets and the Gladiator's Gauntlets
One for hammer, the other axe.

BTW, it's been tested that one piece of "Reduce damage from attacks" armor affects your entire character, regardless of where he/she is hit.

You can keep arguing with me all you want, but until further notice, as a result of data mining on behalf of Ensign and other's, it is a widely known fact that the absorbtion effect of knight's armour is universal, and does not stack. You get the full effect at minimum penalty by wearing only the boots.

You don't have to believe me. I really don't care if you're slightly easier to stomp in PvP or not.

No, no, and no. The absorption from Knight's/Ascalon HAS NOT CHANGED. Stop saying it has been when you haven't tested it yourself.

Well i have tested it my self in a very easy way aswell
go to your doppleganger and just stand there while he shoots at you with his bow
have your inventory open and double click on the boots periodicly
i got pretty much the same results from the knights boots and the gladiator boots
no dramatic difference what so ever 100% check and verifide

That's not a very accurate way of testing. What was the variance on the damage the doppleganger did? Did he do -10 damage? -50? -100? Did he do a consistent amount of damage? Did you take into account what other armor you were wearing? Did he hit you while you were switching armor?

A MUCH better place to test this is Ascalon. Find a melee Charr or Grawl and have him beat on you. Wear the Gladiator boots first, wait about 50 hits, then switch to Knight's. I guarantee you, you WILL see the difference.

But FYI, it's harder to see the damage reduction as the damage you take gets higher. If you're tanking Aatxes and they're doing upwards of 100 damage a hit, chances are you won't notice the extra -2.

Is there a helm that gives a dmg reduction bonus?

Since 4 seconds is the maximum time someone can be knocked down stonefist gauntlets will not increase the kd time past that.

I suggest you try it for your self and you will see what im talking about

the hits were from -5 to -20 with both the boots and the bow is slow enough so when you double click on the boots they change before you get hit try it and see
