Hi, I was hoping for some input on whether or not this laptop will be able to run guildwars, and at what quality.

512 ram, good enough for gw right?
1.6 ghz, about the average speed of decent priced laptops these days.
ati mobility radeon x600 with dedicated 64mb - i guess this is the real question. Good for gw gaming on laptop or not? (btw x700 is the top ati card for laptops at newegg)
I can still cancel the order under 48 hours, so i was wondering what you guys think.
Just ordered this off newegg, will it run gw?

It should run with no problems. It may be a little choppy as it is a laptop, but in general you should have no problems. Just keep it connected to AC power while playing. My laptop is an HP with 512 RAM, p4 3 ghz, and a radeon 9200 and it runs fairly well. My work computer has very similar stats to the ones you listed, but the video card is garbage (gf2 mx).
Personally I'd go with an AMD64, but that's just me.

Yeah of course I would take amd 64 over a pentium m =P.
But i had a budget below 1250 so....
Thanks for the input though, im glad it will be able to run gw.

as of today there is no Windows operating system that takes advantage of the 64 architecture. The processor is slightly faster than the 32 architecture but would be essentially pointless to purcase(given you are on a budget and not just looking for the best new technology) especially since windows has no release date for a 64-bit operating system in sight.

I thought vista was going to be 64 bit?

It will be...but if you remember about 3 years ago when Microsoft introduced to the beta world an operating system aptly named "Longhorn"....Longhorn IS Vista and we've been waiting on a release of that operating system for 3 years. Vista is currently in Beta stages...but Microsoft(last I heard) has yet to mention a release date for the OS.

Read all about Windows Xp 64 here.

64-bit Windows XP is a joke. and notice I said "takes advantage of the 64-bit architecture"...which Windows XP 64 does not. It was a lame attempt by Microsoft to corner the market before Linux/Unix did...

I did notice one thing about your laptop. The hard drive is 4200rpm? Is that a typ0? I thought the slower ones were 5200rpm. That is the only thing that concerns me about that Toshiba laptop. Otherwise it should run Guild Wars fine enough. Is this your college computer? I bought my son a Toshiba a couple of years ago so he had a decent machine for college. So far it hasn't let him down. It only has a Geforce 32 meg card in it though. The norm at the time for $1500.00 laptops.

According to ArenaNet's website, Guild Wars doesn't support Windows 64 anyway.

never mind 64 bit operating systems, athlon 64's just piss on pentiums at games...end of story.

Yeah, that'll be my college computer.
Most of the laptops I saw were 4200 rpm, some priced at 1500+.
Im not too worried about load times anyways, just actual in game performance for example....holding an altar while teams are fighting you left and right. Im actually now worried my cpu wont be able to handle all that (1.6 pentium m)
Btw, if your son plays any games on his laptop, could you tell me what games he was able to run?

I'd rather take 100 punch cards over a pentium processor.

What games does he play? Well Civ3 I know. (not that demanding graphics wise) Sims 2 I believe. He doesn't play all that many games. He has a heavy credit load and is working full time holding down an apartment in Lincoln Park, Chicago. Not an easy feat. He really uses his computer for school mostly. It is his "sound system" and "Movie" machine. I tried to get him to play Guild Wars. He might yet. I have two game keys, so he can use one of them.
He is coming home in a few weeks for a wedding our family has to go to. He will use MY computer to burn the latest movies for his laptop later on this year. That is what I am good for. A Father should be there for his children.
