ive only had one blk dye drop for me, cant remember when i sold it for a good 7.5k. i was offering it out to my guildies first thoguh they all refused.

I've found only 2 blacks dyes so far and I both found them in pre-searing. Maybe this is anoter "urban legend" but I've always heard that when you play in pre-searing you'll have more change to get a black dye.

I have only ever found one black dye found untold silver though after playing through game 3 times.

the first/only black dye drop I had was actually in pre-searing in the catacombs where you kill the 3 skeletons. I've been playing since beta and this was about 2 months ago.

900+hours, 4 complete PvE characters (1 deleted): 2 black dyes, one in pre-sear with my first char, one some weeks ago while farming in Whitman's Folly.
Around 50 uw trips (some full groups, some me and a friend, most with 3-4 people): 12 ectos.
And i got my first sup vigor 2 weeks ago from a chest in Abaddon's Mouth .

my second black dye was near fort ranik in post-searing. ive had SO many dyes there drop, expecially from the stone elementals. litrally, 2/3 of my dyes have dropped there.

I've gotten around 15 blacks to drop in ~1000 hours of play. I've also seen 30 or so drop for other people. I guess I have good luck, but never when I need it.

for about a whole month i didnt c any black dye.. ( u can almost say i was a virgin to black dye

I've got 6 black dyes. I haven't sold a single one that I found yet. I just got my second account and found another dye last night. Guess I'm averaging one per month. If only I had sold some of them back when they were 40k! Curse that market crash!

i sold 3 to the trader at 26k EACH and held back the rest in case they went higher.just before the reset and i logged out 15 MINUTES before the super cheap prices came in

Anyone else get the impression that orange and silver are the two most common dyes? I have something like 30 silver, plus I've used a bunch.

I agree... silver sucks. For a while, I had around 60 just from drops. All of which got used trying to find decent colors... I failed miserably.

Nearly 900hrs of playing between 3 ascended characters and I have gotten only 2 black dyes. Both were in pre-searing with my original character, when the game came out. Silvers I have gotten probably 50 in all. Orange and Green too many to even remember.

You are just unlucky or search in the wrong areas
I have found several black dye, most in pre (of course) where the river scale brood in the water cave dropped some, some of the bandits near the bear (beer) hunters & the stone golems at wizards folly. And the pre- northlands bosses.
in seering it was at desert (ettins) and ring of fire (ettin boss)
superior vigor (only got one..)was found during Last day dawns from (titan )
minor vigors drop regulary in pre- northlands.

I found a black dye in the catacombs my second day playing. I used it on my pre-sear collector armor and found out about 10 minutes later what it was worth. 
My guildie and I each found one about a week later. I still have those two sitting in storage. I've been playing since about a week after the game came out and neither I, my husband nor our best friend have seen one since.
We have been pretty lucky on runes though. I'm still waiting for the superior absorption, but I think we've found almost all the other ones.

As originator of this thread awhile back just updating you guys about my almost countless Black Dye drops (literally countless when you have none there is nothing to count...).
With my first character still no luck. About 6months playing and no black dye, no sup. vigor or sup. absorption either. However, with my second PVE character got my first and only black dye drop in Pre-Sear while fighting the River Skales near the 'enchanted fountain' or something like that...
I finally got my first ecto about 2wks ago while doing a 6-person smite run in UW and a nice sup. monk rune in SF...which was nice. But then again I am mostly messing around experimenting with my PVP builds and trying to get my 2nd char. ascended.
I guess I just have to farm more.

I have over 400+ hours of playing I Have seen various black dyes drop but never for me although I have had 3 sup vigor and a sup absorbtion so I cannot really complain

I found 2 black, 3 silver and lots of others colours but when I tried with my warrior not one drop of any dyes!

I've only had one drop ever and that was in pre-searing in my 10th hour or so, didn't know how valuable it was until it was too late.
After doing a bit of math I found that the average playing time to drop ratio is 550.95 Hours to 4.75 Black drops. Then I found for drop per hour and I believe I came up with .00862147, but that's based on the numbers on this thread only.
My math isn't too great so these numbers could be completly wrong.

Lvl 20 is that in pre or post searing as I have seen a lvl 17 in presearing but where is the callenge in that

i helped guildies so the last city I was in was ascalon

I have three lvl20 characters and two more on the way up and not a single black drop.
I took my friends only character out at lvl4 and got a black from the first monster!
