There's nothing wrong with going Sword for PvE, which is what he wants since he said he wanted to tank. If you don't use Eviscerate as your elite (since you probably will use a Defensive Elite) then Sword can be just as solid, with a better spike, Galrath + Final Thrust.

If you want to be a tank, you want to strike as many foes as you can to divert attention asap... [without sacrificing your elite slot...]

What's coming to your rescue? [axe...]

There is nothing wrong with swords and besides where can you get a chaos axe from that is right the underworld.Well in the ShiverPeaks as well as the Crystal desrt you can get Firey Dragon swords and I have seen some pretty good ones there.The only place that i have seen some decent axes drop is in the desert but it is rare.I still think server artery is good skill and use no energy unlike some of them.

The type of weapon has NOTHING to do with how good it is. Chaos Axes are just normal axes; they aren't better than any other type of axe in functionality. Same thing with Fiery Dragon Swords; all they have going for them is their built-in Fire damage, which can be a hassle since you can't change that. Besides, there are much better-looking weapons then both of them

Axes just have better damage-dealing skills than swords, period. Hammers have knockdowns/interrupts, but you can't use a shield with them. Swords have little going for them in PvE; as a runner and a tank, you're better off with axes. But keep in mind that you'll use vastly different skills when tanking and when running; in running it's not as important what weapon you'll use since, well, you're running. But in tanking, axes outperform swords in every aspect.

Then what would you say a sword weilding warrior is for and not just for running but fighting wise and they only have one elite.I will agree that axes aswell as hammer have good skills that don't require energy only adrenaline.There aren't that many in swords.

+35% damage and 16 swordsmanship for high damage spike.

The basic sever, gash, galrath final thrust happens in about 4 seconds from beginning to end once built up.

Each normal hit is about 35-40.

Assume 500 hp person.

Sever = 37
Bleeding 4 seconds = 24
Gash = 50
Deep wound = 100
Galrath = 72
Final = 111

Total = 394

3 hits prior to it to take off 100 damage, then run off chain.

I am in a transitional period.

If you are running, you dont really need a weapon, do you?

For actually PLAYING the game, I would go with Axe - it has a good selection of skills and with cyclone axe you can put out a decent amount of dmg on groups. I <3 my Axe.

Whats the highest a Warrior's weapon attribute can go before runes and other upgrades?

I thought it was 12 (so 16 total with sup rune and helm), but I thought I saw someone say once that they had 17 total.

Also, is the max attribute level the same for all attributes in all classes, or can some attributes go higher than others; and does it matter if an attribute is a primary or secondary (other than rune/upgrade limitations).

Thanks in advance.

it is 16, but u can get it to 17 with a 20% skill chance modifier on your weapon (my favorite upgrade ) altough i would go 11 axe, 10 strength, 10 w/e u want

Thanks Jhyphi. i am a sword user and i tried both ax and hammer. swords r definitely equal to both if not better. sever artery gash galrath and final thrust combo can finish almost anything with enough swordsmanship. neither hammers or axes to my knowledge can cause bleeding (though hammers can knock down). both axes and swords can do deep wounds. theres no reason not to use a sword

Wait a sec...I'm no expert, but that is not how deep wound works. Deep wound is not based on your Max HP but on how much HP your current enemy has....and I think your 4 sec combo is way too much of an overestimate as well...in terms of attack speed both Ax and Swords have the same attack rate and it's not 1 hit per second. And "3 hits prior to it to take off 100 damage"? What the heck? Are you basing this on a level 20 Warrior hitting a level 6 Grawl?

tastes noobalicious: If you want to use Swords in PvE that's fine. I'm in the firm belief that as long as you're decently spec'd, you'll be effective enough in PvE. But if you venture into PvP, in the current state of the game, Hammer and Ax outclass Swords, bottom line.

Hammer's role is not only high damage but also the ability to chain knockdowns thus giving the opportunity to put and keep any opponent on the ground for a good amount of time (namely Monks).

Axes have a higher chance of a critical strike than Swords and have a better DPS than Swords due to it's more damaging and better attack skillset. Also, Eviscerate outclasses any Sword elite and I'd take Disrupting Chop over Savage Slash anyday.

Edit: Saw a point I had to single out.

Thank God and the mods for the search function.
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ight=axe+sword

It pretty much states the differences between the weapons, but it's more PvP-oriented. In PvE it doesn't matter so much what weapon, but a lot of the basics are still true.

You want damage dealing? Go with Axe and Eviscerate, and/or Cyclone Axe for groups.
Want to use a defensive Elite and still do a good deal of damage? Swords and Galrath + Final Thrust. (Hmmm, White Designs already said this.)
