Who says that warriors have to be the ones tanking? Why not a beefed up pet?

The monk primary would be to use divine favor and healing prayers to heal your pet and attempt to make him an effective tank.

Points into:

divine favor
beastmastery

rough draft of a skill set

Charm Animal
Symbiotic Bond
Signet of Devotion
Call of Protection
Life Barrier {Elite}
Feral Lunge
Disrupting Lunge
Brutal Strike

I really suck at making builds, just to let you know (-:

I also know very little about becoming a beastmaster, good pet skills, or even if using a pet as a tank is feasable. Help me out here guys.

Not much people attack a pet in PvP.

I said PvE... in the topic title (-: I'm not overly concerned with PVP, as per now I play PvE only.

Do monsters attack pets rather than players though?

They will if you maneuver around the pet once you get aggro. The pet will stand still and attack who you tell it to.

Actually, I think I'm leaning towards...

Beastmastery
and
Protection prayers

dumping the leftovers into Divine Favor

Would this effectively use a pet as a tank?

Yes. But good luck convincing groups to accept a monk with a tanking pet.

I've been thinking about it more, and have come across 2 possibilities.

The first would put points into Protection Prayers and Beastmastery, dumping the rest into divine favor.

-charm animal
-mark of protection/life barrier
-protective spirit
-predator's pounce
-ferocious strike
-call of protection
-comfort animal/revive animal/restore life
-signet of devotion/another pet attack of your choice

basically, cast call of protection and enchantments before going into battle, spam predator's pounce and ferocious strike, and heal when necesary.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

the second would focus on healing prayers and beastmastery, dumping the rest into divine favor

-charm animal
-life barrier/mending
-vigorous spirit/healing seed
-predator's pounce
-ferocious strike
-call of protection
-comfort animal/revive animal/restore life
-healing breeze/another pet attack of your choice

i figure life barrier would still work considering the plan is for the pet to take ALL the damage... vigorous spirit when alone, healing seed for parties... as far as the rest goes, the strategy would be pretty much the same.

Anybody have an opinions/advice on this?> thanks!

Brutal Strike I got a smiting/beastmaster build... And a limited experience in protection (trying to level a lizard from 5 to 20 in the desert )

Call of Protection is already great! With a high level in beastmastery, your pet is already going to get very decent damage reduction. Call of Protection + Symbiotic bond is already overkill.... Hey, Call of Protection is already enough!

You really don't need Life Barrier on top, Or signet to heal.

If anything, I'd rather have protective bond and ferocious strike.

Charm Animal
Comfort Animal
Ferocious Strike (E)
Predator Pounce
Call of Protection
Call of Haste (not in the concept... but too good to be left aside)
Protective Bond / Life bond (not sure how life bond + Call of Prot adds up though)
... whatever else you fancy

That would fit the concept. Not sure what is the point of a monk aiming at keeping his pet alive, and doing very little else (beside possibly protection a fellow player too). But, hey, it's up to you! Have fun!

I think it's a good idea ^^ Rangers are cool, and pets are awesome. I'll try this build on my Monk and let you know..

I really think that a good beastmaster build would be highly effective at soloing...
