A lot of people will read the title and instantly flame/throw out this idea.
There is far too much work put into just trying to understand whats going on in pvp.
In wow, you can tell whos casting a spell instantly. You can tell what class is what instantly. You know who youre fighting, and what theyre doing.
This game is pvp focused, and I think more emphasis needs to be put into quick thinking than it does understanding what youre looking at. In Starcraft a dragoon is a dragoon. In quake, you know what a rocket looks like. In any competitive game, things are basic and yet deep.
This game is currently focused on being deep but at the same time confusing as hell.
Maybe its the names blocking everything, I dont know. It feels very low tech and rushed, like a UI from an old videogame. Just fix it. Other than that Im pretty happy.
I cant tell whats going on in pvp easily enough.

You can tell when someone is casting because everyone has casting animations. You just have to figure them all out.
You can tell exactly what skill a person is using as long as you are targeting that person at the time.
You can tell if someone is enchanted if they have something like this '^' on their helth bar.
You can distinguish what's killing someone by what color their health bar is.
You can pretty much tell exactly what is going on for your target at all times if you pay attention, but you can't figure out whats happening with other enemies unless you have them selected because, hey, that wouldn't be too realistic, now, would it.
The only things I can think of that you might want are a scrolling text that tells you what people are doing at any time, which I think is stupid because it clutters the screen and takes a lot of tactics and throws them out the window
Or, you have the skill images over the heads of the players when they are using a skill, which I think is a bad idea for the exact same reasons as the first thing.
IMO, you can figure out exactly what is going on in pvp as long as you recognize all the casting animations and you know what your'e doing.

Thats the most all over response ever.
First of all, all the animations are fluid and its really hard to tell what anyones doing at a given time.
You then go on to say that it would be 'unrealistic' to have a combat log. Because, hell, this games realistic. You cant jump, youre fighting monsters, youre casting spells. Do not argue realism.
You then go on to explain its clutter. Because, as we know, checking for arrows, checking colors, checking animations, trying to select names of each person to see whats going on with them, is all not clutter. Youre just moving your eyes around constantly. Hey, lets get rid of hotkeys while were at it. Do not argue game mechanics if its hypocritical.
"IMO, you can figure out exactly what is going on in pvp as long as you recognize all the casting animations and you know what your'e doing."
IMO youre just being a stereotypical "fanboy" and even if the suggestion would IMPROVE the game youre againts it because this game was designed perfect and improving it would only be its detriment.

Yeah, you're right, I do seem a bit harsh in my answer, and the realism was a bad argument.
But most of the stuff is true.
I don't like the idea of adding anything extra like gamelogs or icons above heads because I think it would make the game really hard to look at.
But your right, I didn't really help you did I?
Well, I'm sorry.
I guess I've just gotten used to everything because of the BWEs.
Anyway, I'm sorry for my unsatisfactory answer once again.
Then again, you don't have to be so defensive about it.

All professions have a unique look, it's not hard at all to spot what primary they play, you just need to play more. I also suggest you take your time and look over what a certain profession can do.
Basically you just need more experiance in detecting whats happening.

Can't expect to learn everything so soon. Play more and you'll get it eventually.

The fast pace of PvP battles in GW make them hard for a lot of people and particularly for beginners. I don't think it comes from the UI. World of Warcraft is bad example because all spells are much slower, straightforward (and boring in my opinion).
