Troll: To post something specifically designed to draw out predictable responses/flames.
Done for the attention, really.

It's originally a fishing term - to 'troll' for fish means to bait your hook and slowly (~1 knot or less) move through the water, waiting for a fish to bite.
Mhydrian
Usually means disagreeing with the person calling you a troll.

Those accused of trolling, raise their hand!
*raises hand*
Go against the norm on boards like these and prepare to be flamed.

Here's a good link:

It's not really about disagreement, instead it's more about intent. Is the person trying to get a point across or are they just writing something to get a lot of responses. Even if a troll posts something completely incorrect, they will continue to argue since that generates even more responses (which was the original goal in the first place)
To generate even more posts, trolls typically hijack multiple threads...

Trolling is related to flaming-
To troll is to make remarks or ask questions in order to draw flames.
Whether what they say is true or not, they word it in such a way as to intentionally upset people, and often mask their statements with an air of innocence, as if they hadn't intended to offend.
Trolling often overlaps with other rule breaking.
Trollling as spam:
Imagine a bbs where people are awaiting a game update.
Thread title "OMG, UPDATE ANNOUNCED! See inside for link."
Thread content"OMGWTF PIE. KTHXBAI"
Trolling as a flame:
'Any idiot would know ..." "Only a person with no life ..."
A direct or indirect personal insult, but with the intent of fueling flames, rather than actually attacking people. It's only a means to an end.
Trolling as an innocent remark:
"If you pay attention, you'll notice that most of the looters in New Orleans are black/African-American"
While technically true, they intentionally leave out the context [100% of vandals in an all-white city would be white, for example.] to offend people.
Trolling is an artform primarily practiced by people who-
*Crave attention, and go for negative, as it's easier to get
or
*Have a personality disorder, and thrive off of being negative to others
Of course, people will troll at other times too, such as when they've had a bad day. The difference should be obvious when you look and see if it's a consistent behaviour, or just an occasional thing.

If you recognize a troll but can't stop yourself from replying, try putting this up instead:
Scaphism
::waves:: I'm the local troll hunter, though I think I'm about ready to graduate to Troll Hunter Extraordinaire.
These good people have given a pretty clear description of a forum troll. (Not to be confused with other kinds of trolling.)
FTW has been adopted and warped by a new generation.

Could it be that the person who farms trolls a w/m. That is popular. I think ppl read to much into it lol. Why would someone say that is what they do on the game? Sounds like a boring life to instigate fights. Rather, some ppl might say they are a farmer. They have completed the game several times and mostly farm.
