New Class Idea: Guardian

Imagination if you will a huge person maybe 8 ft tall in a Cloak over him draging down to his feet with Halbread or a scythe. His stats would be purely defendive, heavy armor and good but not great damage and can take on 2 people at a time. Have very good abiltys like defesive auras that add armor to your allies and create walls or heal fountains or wells whatever
anyways someone good at defense besides a warriors becuase they get annoying
Skill areas:
Standing : adds extra armor to you
Selfless : your selfless abiltys add more armor to allies or damage
Polearm Mastery : increases the damage of your weapon and crital damages
Skill ideas:
Extra padding : you have more armor for x amount of time(Standing att.)
Hellish Slash : for one attack has 10% armor pentration and adds 10-50 extra damage
etc...
You get the idea anyways enjoy

i dont really see where this would fit in to the game.all you need is a war with some good monks healing him to accomplish this.

yeah this kinda sounds like a prot monk to me..
but it is a good idea, i'd like to see another class take on the role
of a monk in some way and be able to do a few of the later
missions without a monk (i mean PUG, not like super extra careful elite guilded groups)
this post has a few good ideas though and it gives me ideas of skills that can be added to the monk repertoire like say....
providence, elite protection prayer
mana cost: 15
linked: protection prayers
for 6-11 seconds all damage dealt to your party is directed towards you and reduced by 15-30%, if you recieve any fatal damage in this way providence ends prematurely and you have 1 life and suffer from weakness, while using providece you cannot move, attack, or use any other skills
i would also like to see more smiting prayers that buff up attacks somehow other than strength of honor and judge's granted these are not bad but..i can dream right.

Ya i know what ya mean about that it needs major tuning but just an idea in the works. as for the Sheild idea ya your probley right or maybe some defendsive weapon But polearms and Nagnatas from japan are defendsive weapons and for the prot monk compairsion I have never seen a good prot monk help or "denfend" if you will so I thought maybe that should be a main class idea not a half ass approuch like a prot monk who dies when up front fighting the baddies

id like to play a purely defensive character
and i never underestimate the power of a pure prot monk in PVE or PVP
aegis spam, reversal, guardian, shielding hands, prot. spirit, and all those condition removal spells can do more than you probably have witnessed
i always do PUG FoW runs with at least 2 heal monks but i went in one recently with just 1 healer and 1 pure prot went smooth as butter
he kept the aegis up which kept the need for healing down
then just helped me out with reversal / prot spirit
its one thing to heal the damage, and another to prevent it
it really lightened the load on my mana

Hmm yeah sounds like a Mo/E Prot-Earth type build but with better natural armour.

Please i kill prot monks alot its not hard with my N/ME a couple of life drains and back fire and energy steals will kill them.
Im talking a dude who can stand there and take a beating and not die but can but it would take alot someone who can defend a wall or a side in GvG ya know

I was thinking earlier about a class that would have Taunts that would cause all opposing creatures in range to target you... in PvE, that means all the creatures would attack you, in PvP, it means that the opposing players would automatically target you. Basically, it would bea class set up to protect the squishy classes.

I don't like the idea of a purely defensive class. The beauty of Guild Wars' class system is that you're not limited to a particular playing style. A monk can be defensive or offensive. A healing/protection monk is quite different from a protection/smite monk. The same for mesmer, rangers, and others. Depending on which map you are on and the composition of your team you make adjustment towards either end. A class with just one style of play would get boring after a while.

since you put it that way... your new class seems kinda over glorified and definitely overpowered like the guy above me said there is no class that can really take a beating vs. the right stuff in GW and that is what makes the game so "balanced."

it sounds O.K. but eh i think an assasin would be a much better idea, couse 1) there needs a differnt class then just warrior to fight up close
2) they could focus on speed and dodging

I would kill to see the Grim Reaper in GW. The GR is the shit. Either that, or, second best, a GR armor set for a female Necromancer, only if she is named Lain Finis. Because only I should be allowed to wear it *grin*
