First off, if there is an official 'Release Suggestion' thread then this should go there, but I couldn't find one.
Anyway, compared to other MMOs I'm used to, the chat interface needs alot of work. I am constantly missing 'whispers' and 'guild' chat because in the heat of battle, it will scroll off the window before I see it. So, I'm constantly scrolling through the chat window to see if I missed anything. Likewise, people miss my whispers. I sent a friend 8-10 whispers and he never saw them. I had to get out of the game, goto IM and get him that way.
Its a simple fix, allow multiple chat windows so that we can configure one just for whispers, party chat, etc. and then I can leave one window for the normal system messages. If thats too hard, then give us an audible feedback when a message comes in so that we'll know to look down at the chat window.
The rest of the game is awesome. But the interface that is used the most, is the most lacking IMO.
Please enhance the chat interface

Thread moved.
That said, I wholeheartedly agree with this suggestion.
I'd like to add: custom channels to discuss with 2+ friends who are not in the same guild.

For guild chat you can turn off everything but guild chat to go back and see the old conversation. You won't lose any new messages it looks like the filter doesn't filter what messages get sent to you, it just filters what you are looking at at that time so you can turn them on/off at will to see the different types of chat and go back a bit if you missed something...

Ever tried reaching chat in the middle of a red alert in planetside?
Now thats some crazy shit....

Correct, but that's still not an optimum system because a window can fill up fast with messages like "X just leveled", "Sword was left for you", "You just picked up a sword", etc. Again, its more of an issue where scrolling back through the text shouldn't be required. Even a separate window with the system/combat messages and one window with just chat stuff (and the filter capability) would suffice.

I'm not on a computer to test this out - but i'm assuming that you can customize the interface and stretch the chat window by dragging its handles.

agreed the "nonsense" Gamemessages should be separable from the usual chat window... or an option to turn it off
