Is there a trick to this mission? I've failed it 5 times now...
I get all the way to the swamp where the Krytan NPCs stop following, and then just get destroyed by the group of like 12 undead there. It doesn't help that henchmen just dash right into the swamp water and get poisoned either.
I read there was a way to explore to the next area and skip the mission, so I'm going to try and do that...
I can't help but think I'm doing something wrong since the first part of the mission is a breeze, then I just get creamed at that part.

You want to play with a full human team in GoK. Preferably with a decent team because things can get ugly pretty fast if a couple of players are not good. The only NPC you can use effectively is the healer. You may need 2 primary monks in this mission, and good healers that is (if they start attacking instead of healing, good luck completing the mission). One more word about healing: don't let NPCs die (especially not NPC healers) in this place if you can avoid it. As long as they're fighting, you have the edge.
As soon as you engage a group of undead, kill warlocks first, or you'll be swarmed with minions. A necromancer player can be helpful to remove some corpses from the battlefield. Then you just need to use basic strategy: target calling & fire focus. A well balanced group can disrupt undead casters and archers while bashing the most dangerous enemies. Undeads are usually grouped during the last fight, so spells with Area of Effect are disgustingly efficient. If your group splits before the last fight where you have 2 groups of foes, you're in a very bad situation.
In a few words, there is no secret trick, but the end can be tough. The group must know what he's doing.

One thing that I found to be very effective in this map was Ranger Traps.
Just get everyone up on one of those hills, and have a Ranger spam healing spring and then the damage traps as much as possible. I did this, and even though only me and one other guy were alive at the time of the undead onslaught, we managed to survive (he was a necro/mesmer with minions).
If you're gonna try spamming traps, you'll want to put them on the tops of the hill, though. That way, they get sort of bottle-necked.
Also, the necro guy I was with was VERY helpful, because a crapload of people die, and he was able to get a crapload of minions from all the corpses. The only thing you have to worry about there is getting to the corpses before the undead do.

I tried a few times with a full group of players, to be honest the henchmen did a far better job of getting me to the end, in fact, of the 6-7 times I tried with people, never did we even make it to Justician. I've never died before Justician when I did it with henchmen. I guess you have to get lucky and hope to find skilled and well equiped players, I couldn't find any though, so I just walked to the next city.
Thanks for the replies though. I think when I'm level 20 I may go back and try again.

Kryta, is the swamp mission correct? With the drake beach?
****SPOILER******
If this is so the mission has a easy trick to it. Some may call it cheap. During the April BWE i used 4 henchmen(fighter, brawler, healer and mage) and 2 rangers(one being me). The whole enemy movement is set on physical checkpoint triggers. When you reach a certain spot, it triggers the enemies to move foward some. Take a look at your radar and you can easily identify this. The trick is to get a ranger, or a mage with high distance to pull the mobs to you without hitting the physical triggers.
Take your time, don't try to race in. If you do you'll just end up cutting yourself down in time. I know alot of people are going to call his method extremely cheap. After passing the drakes on the beach, you have to fight a messload of warlocks and undead. It's a horrible fight. Just run through to the prince. It'll cutscreen to a movie and anyone who has died will be revived(minus any dead pets you have). Just follow the prince until he tells you to take the low road. Try not to let any die here. The more that live, the more that you'll have to help you in the swamp and to keep the prince alive. Prince death = loss. He'll go left, you go right. Focus on one side of the swamp and then take down the other. I liked going left to right. Then wait for the boss mob to come strolling down the swamp and finish him off.
Other key things. It seemed alot don't understand that if you have a loose monster, it'll jump directly on your healers. Most monster packs come with two dog looking things (sorry i can't remember their name). Target and attack those first. Warlocks are a different story, i like hitting the dogs to keep them off the casters first and killing the warlocks first. Things get messy when they have corpses. Little things like that will make a game go much much smoother. I think that really applies to most of the PVE game.
This is all information based on APRIL BWE. If things goot tweaked since then, you'll have to find another method. My presale access ended April 29th 5:00am (actually got too tired and logged off) and i haven't had a chance to buy retail. I only got a few hours in and reach the dwarf kingdom after the torches.
Hope that helps.

Thing that's hard, is after the Justicliar splits up and the 2 undead waves attack the NPCs. The 2 waves are easy, just go to the side with less NPCs and the other side can handle itself. At this point a group of 8 undead walk (quickly) over and block access to the rest of the swamp, then they just stand there. There's already 2 groups of 3 undead moving around just behind them. So any attempt to attack leads to two things, a completely poisoned party as you need to run into the swamp to get there, and a fight with 11 (if you're lucky) or 14 undead. Needless to say, death is swift. This is the only part of the mission I did not find very easy with a group of henchmen, and then I get to this part and die in 5 seconds and not even manage to kill 2 of them.
I tried several times to take out one of the groups of 3 before the 8 walk down, but there's not enough time. I thought to group with some players so we could maybe pull them back towards the NPCs still alive on the hills, but then the players I grouped with couldn't even make it that far into the mission, and you can't pull with henchmen since they just run at them soon as you attack.

The ridiculously easy way to do it: Just have one or two people with Smiting skills. Symbol of Wrath in particular will tear anything undead to shreds, all for the low, low cost of five energy. I mean, you could try pulling, but... nah, just run from monster to monster and Holy them to death.

Interesting...i don't remember fighting the waves at all. I remember going on the left side above the swamp, clearing those and switching back to the right. At that point we had quite a few extra soliders still alive helping us. After that we hung out on the right side and saw a glowing guy walking down the swamp and pulled him up. Maybe something has changed between april and now?

It is a tough mission, but it can be done pretty easily as well. My smiting monk had a blast going through it
Get a necromancer in the party and a smiting monk and it should be a lot easier.

I did this mission with a group of NPC's. It looked tough at first, I died once or twice.
Then I found the ridiculously easy way, which is to pull them to the larger NPC group on the right side. Most of my henchman were dead when I figured this out, so they weren't in my way as much, but even with a full group of henchies it is possible. Just press the space bar on the monster to start attacking it, then use your left click button to click on the ground near the NPC's that you're trying to lure them to. Your warriors will follow you, just keep clicking on the ground in that area, while running away. The undead will follow you and your warriors and a few seconds later they are dead from all the arrows. Repeat a few times and you should have them cleared out.
If you can't get it to work will a full henchie party, then just let them die, and then lure them to the NPC's.

This is a mission I help people a lot on; the key for me is to take two healers. One focuses on removing hexes and debilities, especially countering poison. The other simply focuses on current tanks. If you have one person with an aoe you can basically let the monks hide and keep everyone standing while that person slowly (or quickly) demolishes the undead.
As several people have mentioned, smiting prayers are particularly effective. Symbol of wrath can mess some undead up, even if you don't target the warlocks. Another thing that's particularly helpful: the ghouls tend to be the footsoldiers on the undead battlefield. Unlike most undead they are poisonable, so rangers can cut through their heavy hitters with ease.
