Me/E - Why Are They Not a Popular Build???

I hav looked for a good while on the internet but i can find many stratergys for Me/E - Is this just not a good build???
I would hav thought that a primary mesmers fast casting coupled with an elementalists damage capeabilities to unleash high damage fast.
Along with this there is the way that a mesmer can use illusion magic etc to drain enemy life (imagine 'conjure phantasm' + burning...) and prevent the enemy from being able to hurt you...
i just wanna ask people what they think - is it just that no1 has tried it or am i just being stupid and would it really not work....?

They are popular in GvG (meet them three times in 7 battles). They are focused on fastcasting, using arcane echo and fire (meteor shower, fire storm etc.) and they try to rush your guild lord.
For other purposes - my guild mate tried that but always ended on lack of mana.

Being a Mesmer myself, I'll say that there's nothing more satisfying than interrupting a wannabe elementaliast. The second I see them cast, I just throw up a power block, and watch them sit and scratch their butts for the rest of the fight, as their party goes down.

but just make sure you can do sumthing vs warriors and other mellee otherwise if just after you have stopped the elementalist if a warrior comes up you will be hit hard quickly (i say this from experience my main char being a lvl 20 w/mo) and you will not be able to stay alive and keep the elementalist at bay for long...

There's other skills I use, too Empathy, for example, teaches warriors who want to 1v1 not to in a hurry. As does a shatter enhancement for those who enjoy mending

god ye... two of the skills i hate most but while you are busy doing that to me the elementalist will start to nail you once more...and your just stopping people hurting you - not hurting them - they might as well just ignore you until the rest of you party die from 4vs3 then the whole party nails you
- of course this could be turned to your advantage by being a mo/me healer so they ignore you and you heal everyone without getting hurt yourself...

I've been an Me/E since I started this game. I'm in Thunderhead now.

I havent had any problems with the build I use, so I dont see why anyone would.

Oh and to Mandy up there, we've talked about this before. You have to be kinda smart not to use Exhaustion spell after exhaustion spell. And only a stupid mesmer would use a 25 energy spell to begin with.

I use a similar build. I don't really have problems with energy. Mesmers have spells to steal energy from enemies so I stay at a good level most of the time. My timeline with this character has been mainly relying on AoE fire spells and Chaos storm up until I got to Thirsty River. Since then my elemental skills have really taken a backseat to interrupts and energy stealing. Main problem with this build is the lack of healing. Ether feast will only go so far. All other professions have better healing skills.

I used to play a Mes/Ele, but I found more and more as I got further along that I was not using the Ele skills, and relying solely on the Mes skills. So when I ascended, I changed my secondary to Mo, now I can res more that once in a mission. Still only use Mes skills other than that one. But, man, is it fun to res with fast cast, can get a whole team up before a monk blinks .

Try Aura of Restoration and Ether Feast combined. That'll give you a huge chunk of health in one shot.

Me/Ele is probably the most versatile char I have in my account. Bring Echo and archane echo and you can choose to be Echo Nuker or Echo interupt. It's really fun to interupt chain lightning from the Mursaat elementalist and Mursaat towers. BTW, I finished the game with my Me/Ele.

Energy is not a problem for a Me/E if you stack Attunements and avoid exhaustion spells.

I was collecting the rest of the mesmer skills with my Ranger/Mes when I met a Mes/Ele, in a GvG, with Ward Against Melee and the usual interupts and quickly learned to hate that mesmer. Since then, I deleted my Ranger and am working throught the game as a Mes/Ele.

I only use Armor of Mist, from the Ele side right now, but I feel like the Ele side, if taken as a support role, is a great secondary to Mes. I was using Glyph of lesser energy to calm down the cost of backfire for a while, but I am better at energy management now.

another thing is that fast casting line have almost no skills in there... while the effectiveness of fast casting are not that great if the spell you cast are fast or not enough attribute in there...

(exhausion arent that big of deal when paired with glyph of energy)

another big deal is that as ele... you want to do heavy damage, and you do not have the option of rune for those elements.

I think those are the main thing people avoid me/e for...

The only reason I don't use me/e as much are mainly because... why do I need fast casting for? lava font? flame burst? I don't know... at most triple lightning strike? fire storm/meteor shower really fast? who cares if you get firestorm and meteor shower in 1-2 sec earlier?

actually, I can think of some ways to make a me/e work, problem? less versatility then a primary ele...

Glyphs of Lesser energy and Energy can REALLY cut down on those gigantic cost spells and even nullify exhaustion. At 30 and 15s. recycle time, and using fire [which has slow recycle anyway], you can make it work. Just be wary of the in your face warrior I suppose.

Me/Mo

My favorite character is my Me/Ele that I have just about finished the game with. I have 55 energy due to offhand item/rogue armor and play mostly a nuker in Pve. I know that is not nearly as much as an elementalist primary but I usually knock off the enemy (or most of them) before it becomes an issue. I think where my character really shines though is in PvP. Combining shut down skills with earth skills is a lot of fun. I have had warriors hack and slash at me for what seems like forever and when they eventually realize they can't bring me down on their own, they move on to someone else. The fast casting doesn't hurt when using a rez or any other spell for that matter, especially in PvP where seconds can determine whether your team wins or loses.

I have a PvE Me/E who fastcast nukes, and I have to say it's great fun. I usually bring glyph of lesser energy, fireball, firestorm, meteor shower, arcane echo, (support skill, usually mantra of recovery), (support skill, usually energy tap), and res signet. I'll cast arcane echo, wait for my energy to return, then firestorm or meteor shower the mobs (who are hopefully distracted by a tank). I'll then use the glyph and cast the echo. If I cast meteor shower like this, I'll usually have something like 5/20 energy left becaue of exhaustion, but I can still energy tap a mob and cast firestorm, and finish off with a fireball or two. Since meteor shower is on a 1 minute recharge timer, even when echoing it the exhaustion isn't too bad (20 exhaustion clears in 60 seconds). It works very well, assuming the mobs are stationary casters or are distracted by a tank. I end up being able to put out two meteor showers and a firestorm before the elementalist primary is able to echo his meteor shower...

The main problem, of course, is that you're pretty helpless while everything is recharging and you're waiting for exhaustion to wear off. I cast fireball in the downtime, using ether feast and the glyph when necessary.

that build isn't an effective use of either class. Elementalist skills cost too much mana for mesmers and honestly fast casting is one of the worst primary attributes in the game. Mesmers average 40-45 energy...cast a 25 energy spell and you've depleated more than half your energy reserve for a single attack. Elementalist/Mesmer would be a great build as you could shutdown for a lifetime with 130 energy.

That's really misinformed. Ok, you're going to shut down a caster, before they cast, without Fast Cast? Explain that one to me. Secondly, if you're stupid enough to put 25 Energy cost spells on a Mesmer, you deserve to get owned. There are plenty of 5, 10, or 15 cost elemental spells to use as a Mesmer who can cast them faster than an ele primary. Also, Mesmers Average around 45-50 energy, and usually use Inspiration Magic to quickly refill their energy.

I'd take a dual attunement Me/E over a primary Ele any time. Sure they shouldn't bring exhaustion based spells but thanks to the dual attunement the energy costs don't trouble them too much. Combine that with channeling and arcane echo+ fastcasting ability and you have one evil nuker that spits out huge amounts of damage consistently yet fast at the same time.
Speaking both, pvp and pve.

I'm a Me/E at the last mission of the game. Im also not using much from the ele line but i've found good use in Echo, it makes my build more versatile, copying hexes according to the enemies we face. Energy isnt a problem since the inspiration line of the mesmer is quite good at retaining a good energy level throughout the battles.

Probably. Its true Rangers can interupt better than a Mesmer. That's not the point. Interuption only stops the spell while its being cast. It doesnt prevent the spells from being cast in the first place.

Hex breaker only stops one hex...it's a great skill but it's easily over looked and reapplication of the skill generally get's ignored in favor of doing something else. You could also toss up a buffer hex just in case they are using hex breaker and then throw up Backfire.

One of the funnier things I've done against other Mesmers who cast Backfire on me is running up to them and casting Shatter Hex. I get damaged, but so do they.
