LAN center

Hey guys, just got Guild Wars (and I'm loving it). Anyway, I know this guy who owns a LAN center and I was wondering if it would be legal to install guild wars on all the computers using just one copy of the game. Normally it'd be obviously illegal, but since guild wars doesn't require a key until you create a login, and because you can download an installer for the client off guildwars.com I was thinking it might be legal. I think it would be cool to be able to go into any old LAN center, put in your user name and password, and play guild wars from there.

Thanks

he can install guild wars onto all his computers. he doesnt even need to buy the game. all he needs to do is to download the online client.

that doesnt mean anyone could actually play though. people would need their own account for that..

Don't ya think this'll be a great game for Internet Cafe's. I can go any where and play as long as they have the client installed.

Yes, I know, but it would be better to install the game from the discs so it wouldn't have to download everything. And the people needing their own account thing is sort of what I was saying would be cool.

The data streaming to the computer is the same for everyone. Installing from a CD is just a convenience not a necessity. The account Information (Usernames, passwords, characters etc) are stored on the game servers not the local computers. All that's stored locally are maps, interface files, fonts, dialog choices etc that are the same for everyone. This game is already designed to be mobile.

Yes, but when you're using the client from the site, doesn't it have to download a ton of stuff whenever you go somewhere new? I just think it would be better to install from CD, so yeah, is that legal?

Yes, you can install GW on as many computers as you ever would want to- there are no limits on the number of computers you can install the game on. Instead of limiting the installation like so many games, and having to deal with things like cracked CD's, etc, GW can be installed anywhere. The limitation is that you need to have a registered account with a valid key to play. ArenaNet gets to verify that the key you enter is one that they've sent out when you create the account, and it's very nice in it's portability- you can play on any computer that has it installed, just by putting in your email and pass.

So yes, it is legal to install GW from CD onto all of the computers at the LAN center.
