So yeah, i was pretty surprised when a couple purple items dropped, considering that im pretty new to the game. ya know, the initial excitement of "wow a great item"...yet this quickly turned to disappointment when i identified them...

why the hell are some items purple if they dont have ANY modifiers or anything? i mean seriously...a purple flame artifact that i identified just showed how much it was....and that wasnt even that great to begin with....ugh.

was this ever supposed to happen ??

Its all random. Sometiems you get crappy purple/gold items with no mods and others you get awesome ones with perfect mods.

I have seen both.

It also will tell you if it has any modifiers on on with the simple "Unidentified" under the name ^^

You can also tell the same if has none.

if it has no "unidentified" under it, then if you id it, there will be no mods

Ok, here's how the color thing works.

There is a table setup which contains the typical drop for mob of level X

For example

Level 20 mob, will typically drop an axe that does from 6-22 dmg to 6-24 dmg (if it drops an axe) with possible mobs to it which will make it a blue item. However, this range is not set. There is a chance of variance here where the drop can be outside this range (usually better, but not always). If mob X is level 20 and it drops an item that would be typical for a Level 22,23 mob, then it will be purple. If the item dropped would be a typical item for a level 23,24, etc mob then it will be gold. The mods on an item don't affect it's color, the stats compared with what dropped the item are what determine it's color.
