Monk 105/55 armor??

Does the armor rating really matter when making a 105/55 monk since the main objective is dmg to max health from protective bond (old way) to protective spirit (new way)?

So could I use Ascalon Armor as long as I get the energy of the same level as Armor from Droknar's or collectors?
