W/Mo problems

I'm playin PvE with some friends. Of course noone went staight monk.

I chose monk as secondary and would concentrate on healing.

The problem is when I am engaged in battle, and try to heal, I get pummeled.

I dont think I'm being interrupted, but obviously my attack animation stops while casting self heals.

Am I just temporarily the victim of low healing spells or will this dilemna continue throughout the whole game?

If it's a permanent problem, then should I go another route like protection enchantments instead?

OR

If its temporary, should I start pumping healing after my primary (swordmanship) warrior line to overcome the sustained damage during cast animation?

Any advice from the more learned is greatly appreciated. Thanks again in advance

I haven't gotten very far yet, so please take whatever I say with a grain of salt. There are definitely more knowledgable people around here.

Anyway, have you tried using Orison of Healing? It's an extremely fast-casting spell, low mana, and respectable healing after you have some points in Healing Prayers.

That would allow you to do the necessary healing without opening yourself up to high damage during a long cast duration.

i would say that it truly helps to have someone dedicated to healing on your team, most likely a primary monk, it can make things alot easier

Bear in mind, I have no idea where you are in the game, what leel you are or your attribute spilts, but:

It's your lack of attributes most likely - I played a Monk/Mesmer smiting-healer and would tank groups using my healing, which was always about equal to my smiting. A warrior should have an easier time (higher armour), but a few levels of healing will help a lot. As a Warrior you'll be too busy to be spamming a heal every second or two, so look for things like enchantment based healings - Live Vicariously, Vigourous Spirit would be two easy choices, as well as Healing Hands. With both Live Vicariously and Vigourous Spirit running and a few points in healing you'll get substantial life back every time you attack - combine that with a fast attack rate (flurry for example) and you can do quite well. And yes, a healer makes a big difference, though it isn't a necessity in PvE.
