Is it possible at the moment to complete the 'hidden' 5 Hunters Bear quest in Regent Valley? Nothing I've read suggests it shouldn't be completeable, but every time I try to do it, I kill a bear and they just act like nothing happened. Then the time runs out and I fail. Any ideas on how to beat it? Thanks in advance.

Oh good, I'm not the only one who couldn't do this. I tried two different times and I couldn't do it. The first time I couldn't find any bears to kill, because I killed all the ones on the way to get to those guys, and the second time I made sure I left a bear alone so I would have one to kill, and they acted like nothing happened when I killed it. They did say, however, "Go into the woods here and kill a bear" or something like that, and the bear I killed was not technically in the woods. But from what I could tell there ARE no bears in the woods!

You'll also notice if you check your quest log that this does not show up.

It's either a bug or a bad joke.

My guess is it's a bug.

I completed it last BWE, just by killing a bear and running back to them and talking to all of them before the timer expired. I haven't done it since then, but if you can get them to recognize that you killed a bear, you do get the reward of a unique item: Hunter's Ale.

Yeah, I'd heard it was perfectly doable, I just wasn't able to do it myself, for whatever reason.

That's a different quest, where you need to get a bear hide to make a cloak for Little Thom.

The quest we're talking about isn't technically even a quest (as it never appears in your quest log). A group of five hunters in the middle of the woods in Regent Valley will ask you to go kill a bear within three minutes. Unfortunately, when I do it, nothing happens and they just act like I never killed one. Tried everything from killing two bears each time to drawing one right next to them and killing it to talking them WHILE killing a bear.

It sounds like some people have completed it recently. To those of you who have completed it since the game went live, let me know if you did anything special and how many times you had to try.

What does the Hunter's Ale do, anyway? Just make your vision blur? Is it anything special (IE, does it have 'quest item' in the descriptor) or just a gag item?

Well, this isn't the April BWE, unfortunately, this is post-release, and changes are being made constantly. Has anyone gotten it to work since the game went live a few days ago?

Not I. I tried it five times, twice with a party member to help, and never could do it. I even had him stand with the guys and I ran off and killed two bears in less than 30 seconds and had him talk to them, and neither one of us ever could complete it.

Good to know. Guess we can add it to the list of buggy, broken, or just plain missing things in Pre-Searing.

Ah well, I guess I can finally move on to Post-Searing now

yea I found them all drunk and crazy talking back in april but had forgot to look for em again before I went to the academy... I'll have to do that again... As I remeber though I had to come in from the otehr side and kill the bears AFTER talking to them... The trick I used awas getting their helth down a bit before talking to them then riunning back to finish them off before they fully healed...

Well, yes, that's the whole point of it. You talk to them, they tell you that you have three minutes to kill a bear. None of us are having trouble doing so, the problem is that you kill a bear and because of some bug, nothing happens.

Personally, I have killed a bear (often multiple bears) for them after the countdown started in just about every possible way and it's had no discernable effect.

Judging from what I'm hearing from others, I'm inclined to believe this quest was somehow broken between the April BWE and release. Hopefully this quest and all the other Pre-Searing problems (no 'royalist mob', missing elementalist, mesmer, and necro armor, etc) will be fixed in the near future.

It would be great if people would actually READ the thread before replying.

I'd like to confirm that I had this problem as well. They didn't notice however many bears I killed.

I would like to say that I have completed that quest, and I did it just yesterday (05/03/05). Go talk to the chuckelheads, get the timer, run over to the bears that are near-by kill one, get back before the timer runs out.

You need to talk to the leader of those hunters to complete the mission.

Hope that helps.

I never did determine who I was supposed to talk to after killing the bear, I just talked to each one in turn until I hit one that appeared to be sober enough to recognize that I had indeed completed the challenge. If the first guy you talk to doesn't reward you, just go around the circle until someone does.

Incidently, you can do it as many times as you like, if you really want to collect an inventory full of ales (alas, they don't stack).

BTW: Did you manage to figure out the rules to Blood, Sweat, and Tears? It's pretty simple, actually, although apparently it's more difficult when you're drunk. While I was watching, though, they went around nearly to 40 at one point before someone messed up.

Yes, it works fine now. At least for me it does. I ended up doing it twice and got 2 Hunter's Ales for it. But what are they for?? Can you craft something out of them? Maybe get some uber secret dood to pour it over yur bow to make it do 100 damage? (btw that'd be super sweet ) Does anyone out there know?

I know I reported it as a bug and tried it 5/3/05 and no matter who I talked to at the time, it still ran out of time. Of course, my inventory was full lol. Maybe the hunter's ale is like the tapestry - it has use later in the game?

I did the quest and got the Hunter's Ale. When I drank the Hunter's Ale the timer started again like I was supposed to go out and get another bear.?!

Could be one of those things that Larry the stoner programmer put in to amuse himself. Just to see how drunk your character can get and still kill a bear.

I did this quest yesterday. I saw this topic, but thought it was just the little thoms cloak. The quest is easy, just find the bear before you talk to them. i found one south-west-west from them. The hunters ale makes the screen go blurry, and zooms in and out- a gag item, rather funny in my opinion

Each person takes it in turn to cout a number. If the number has the number 3 in the number you shout "Blood" instead of the number. If it has the number 6, you shout "Sweat" instead of the number. If it has the number 9, you shout "Tears" instead of the number.

If the number 69 were to come up, someone would shout "Sweat Tears"
If the number 33 were to come up, someone would shout "Blood Blood"

This is actually quite a fun drinking game

As a tip for the bears, Press and hold Ctrl and it will list all the enemies in the area, even if they are hidden behind hills, makes finding a bear a lot easier.
