Scratch gently with a coin :-(
Deagol
I managed to destroy the first block of alpha-numerics before getting the hang of it. Ah, only 35^5 possible combination to try...
I should play more instant lotto.

I know what's up with that...I almost took out the last series but I caught myself beforehand. Lets see, a sealed box, with a box inside that's been sealed in shrink wrap, finally get that open and the jewel case is also shrink wrapped. The key on the inside was a scratch off, and the cd holding thing wouldn't let go of my CD. This is a game not Fort Knox :/ Due to streaming though, and since I played the beta, I didn't have to actually install, I just needed the key to slap onto my account.

Did you go at it with a knife or something? Those numbers are on there pretty good, I tried scraping it with a nail file pretty hard and it didn't even fade the print. I think they are actually under that strip of plastic.
Deagol
I used a coin. But I thought I should remove the plastic from the border first, and it stick pretty well out there. The alphanumerics are semireadable even in the first block, so I'll be able to make educated guesses. Hopefully that is enough.
But not right now with dead servers

Used my credit card that I purchased the game with.

Oh doctor, she is pretty nuts. That fort knox gag just sent me into riotous laughter.

My problem was the font they used on the serial. I couldn't really tell what was what out of 6/8/9. I'd like for a community manager to suggest this for future expansions if they are sold in a box( bigger letters/numbers)

You guys ever saw a game so well... protected? I like the fact that they are protecting the serial keys, but isn't there an environmental limit to this?
DeLucky
I had problems with another game and e-mailed them a copy of the page with the code on it, a photo of the box, and a few others. They sent me a new code. Albeit, not the same company but still were willing to make things right.

Hi
Useing a a drill and sledge hammer to open all the seals on this thing i got to the scratch with a coin.
It looked like it was sealed in plastic too so tried to remove the plastic tape <protection > pealed away for the first 5 digits then ripped
Needless to say it was unreadable althought i Tried...
Anyway had to go back to the stor and extange it for another one.
This time I got thourgh all the protection and very gentlely scrached the pain off

I was dumbfounded this morning when I saw that I needed to use a coin. Hell, I tried 3 different pennies. man o man

My guess for ultra protection is that because the game has no monthly fee, they really need to protect the access to it.
Some stores/employees, but definitely not all, can be pretty lenient about returning/exchanging un-sealed items, if your reasoning is good. I guess by having the scratch-off seal though, no one will try to install the game and then return it with some lame excuse like, "the CD just doesn't load, I'd like my money back" because they obviously had used the key already.
Anyway -- I had no problem scratching it off, but I really hate that scratch-off gunk. I tried peeling off the sticker instead so it would be cleaner, but no luck.

Most stores won't take back opened software at all, though. I thought the extra packaging and scratch off was a little absurd too. And yes, the tiny font (with its many indistinguishable letters/numbers) was clearly not chosen by anyone with the end-user in mind.
Guild Warrior
whats a sure way to removing it off without damaging the case?

I bought the EU version in another store. This version was much simpler, the box was sealed with ordinary tape. The key was still "scratch off", but without the plastic strap that had confused me. I used a credit card this time, and it was much easier. The font was also very readable on the EU version.
Other differences was that the manual was split in two leaflets (one for each "book" in the US version), and the CD's came in individual paper wrappings, rather than a jewel case.

I had no problems with the CD-key scratching off...I jsut used a Car key, and i found it incredibly easy to read. I dont know what the deal is with everyone elses. And yes, I have the American Version.
Armada Hunter
I used a coin. It seemed hard, mind you.
JAGeAkurei
I can already see the expansion boxes.
This jewel case will self destruct in 10 seconds.....

I broke my cd case also because I thought to get to the second cd you had to flip it up from the right side(like you usually do on other games, or in my eperience) so I ended up cracking the case :P
Also I just used a golf ball marker to scratch it off. Worked well for me.
