crap-text is green
Ashley Twig
What's with the green text that informs you about who has favor, how much more often somebody has to win the get favor, how much gold your party shares, what some mob drops that's reserved exclusively for you or somebody else, that tells you what you pick up or somebody else?
Who needs this information anyway?
I don't, that's for sure, and I would like to turn it off.
Unfortunately it appears unblockable.
But I think it should be, because with all the useless text, and only 10 or 12 scrolllines on screen I sometimes miss important mission-related information that sombody posts.
Or somebody doesn't read information that I post.
Like 'Don't attack the 4 guys coming out of the door' in Surmia (or is it FrontGate?) or 'Don't attack the 2 guys.' in TheWilds.
So the green useless-text should be turn-offable while there should be a mission-chat which can't be turned off and should not include information like 'I'm attacking ----ed <whatever>'

If any change at all, leave Favor unblockable or at least don't bind it to the lootchannel, block the lootdrops (as that is really unimportant, yes), but FORCE the players to see target calls.
Terra Rayne
Green texts are important but there are some that the player really couldnt give a damn about, like drops for other players and favour announcements involving the other two countries (I'm european and i really dont care about korean ar american tournament wins unless they take favour from europe). It should be possible to filter some of the green text but leave all info that actually applies to the player visible.
Targeting info and loot reserved for you should be unblockable, but players should be able to filter those damn favour messages.

To the OP:
Yeah, in fact, I'm getting quite tired of these green texts. I couldn't care less if Korea held the hall once more, or how many times we need to win it in order to get Favor. If I'm not interested in going to the FoW or UW, why should these messages be displayed for me?
And I couldn't care less if a nice item dropped for Player X or that Mob X dropped an amount of gold and that Player X picks up the amount of gold and that amount is shared with the party. I don't care, and it's useless spam in my eyes.
If I want to see these messages, I'll turn them on. But at the moment, I have no choice but to see those messages. This and toggleable capes would make my day

I agree.
There is often too much "text" scrolling across the board that things will get missed in the heat of battle.
Personally, I don't care what drops other people get, and I don't care if the other people in the party know what drops for me. It was dropped for me and it's none of thier business unless I make it thier business.
I'd like to see a chat window for all this stuff... they made one for emotes, they can make one for these in game messages.

All the message should be able to be toggled.
Maybe with an exception to server-messages like
"New update avaliable: log off and log on again"
I got that once at the ToA. Previously to that message I had trouble with map-travel.
I was still able to walk around, so I guess the network was still up, since chatting was working too, but map-travel: no way.
That's when I got error=40.
Support is still clueless what error=40 means. Well, they are so smart, they can't be bothered with trivial matters like errors.

Vital information is lost because some idiot e.g. opens a chest during battle, spamming green text all over the window.
A loot-channel would be the perfect solution. I don't need the game to tell me, that I picked up an item when I just clicked on it.

But you're right.
On the other hand I have to quote GaileGray from one of my personal mails who wrote to me something about being imoral requesting such drivel.
And you're right about called targets: They appear in the normal team-channel, not in the green-text.
Target-info is a two-sided matter.
On the one hand It's absolutely useless for players to call the same target, if it already has been called.
And I don't really care about people telling me, what kind of skill they're using at the moment.
8 out of 10 team-messages sometimes are: I'm using this on... or I'm attacking...
On the other, spamming the team-channel with
I'm attacking DolyakRider
more than once helped me, save the mission.
So spamming 'I am doing...' can help, and it can do quite the opposite.
Still it would be nice if they were blockable.
If the team has a designated caller who knows what s/he's doing you get the bell, and the crosshairs in the party-window.
I don't need additional text with that.
Ultimate_Gaara
I would like to turn this off, but after every mob thats where i look to see if i got any nice goodies i can not see from where im standing, stuff like favor and gold picked up i could not care about less, i only like items that drop for me to pop up...
Warskull
There should be two more toggles.
Global Announcements (HoH, New Patch, ect.)
Local Announcements (X has dropped Y, anything else in green that everyone doesn't get.)
Global Announcements (HoH, New Patch, ect.)
Local Announcements (X has dropped Y, anything else in green that everyone doesn't get.)
zehly
The whole purpose of the HoH message goes along with the "World Event." So when there is a possible change in favor, everyone sees it. Toggle it? Sure. But if the favor does change, then I think it should be spammed to everyone regardless. Maybe not the "has won a battle, if .. wins 3 more times.." But "has won a battle an takes control"

Therefore i demanded to make targetcalls unblockable so people can't claim they did not see them just because they deactivated "System" Channel. What do you want the blocking thing for? By reading the basic idea someone wanted just every system message in one channel whereas you could easily block out important messages as well... way to go to be a lousy contribution to the team.
@Ashley:
So after completing with so many characters you still did not get the use of targetcalls? OH GEEEZ. Now that is a totally new degree of ignorance
Or maybe someone just didn't tell you. T. T is the magical little key that puts a use behind those targetcalls. But thanks, you reminded me to check if someone knows about targetcalls the next time i'm setting up partys for missions.

Kampfkeks: Target calls aren't in the green text. They are done in blue I believe, on the team channel - as are the "I have 46 of 46 energy" messages, and other things like "I have crippled on me". They might even be in white, in fact, but they aren't green.
He/she wants to block the dumb gold and item messages, and I totally agree. And the HoH messages while in mission. Go ahead, make them show up in town, but really when I am in the middle of an encounter I don't give a rat's posterior who won the HoH.
Blockable dumb green text? Sure!

As for the green text toggle, /signed; as an smite/fireAoE elementalist, sometimes I kill a lot of foes at the same time so you can imagine the amount of green text I get when I kill 12 Bog Skale Blighters with Inferno, they drop 12 items/gold and I take those 12. Yes that makes for a whooping 36 lines. If im having a conversation in Guild/Whisper channel its a bit annoying...
Add up all the other green texts and you get a real mess
Also, what about a whisper toggle? I mean, there are times you dont want to read ANYTHING (apart from maybe "Theres a new build reconnect") so why cant I mute all the texts I get?

When I play with my mesmer, I use ChaosStorm and (I hope the name is correct) EtherShock.
That means a lot of green text too. Depending on what background the text scrolls, it can get unreadable, regardless of the amount.
I can understand that "Griffon dropped purple axe reserved for Ashley" might do those good, who don't know about ALT-key.
But even without the alt key, zooming out with the scroll-wheel, can be used as a work-around to watch the area you're in, to observe where there are items reserved for you.
So basically: Drop/Pickup/Share info in green text is probably good for starters and novices. That's why I would like them to be toggleable.
Same with Favor-messages: if you like them, keep'em on. If not: have'em toggleable.
A lot more thing should probably toggleable (capes e.g.) to give the user more abilities to customize the game, but what else is new?
I don't want to open a new thread about this, but what about the party-member-window?
I can't be closed while in-town, but it can while outside.
Shouldn't it be the other way round?
How many times do people rush, because they don't see, that the health of other members is still low?
And why do I need a non-closeable party-member window in-town, when I'm doing anything but forming a party?

And even if I was able to complete without making use of the T-key. Does that make me a bad player?
There are many players e.g. who play exclusively with henchmen.
They don't have much use for the T-key.
But even with henchmen, the T-key can come to use.
So sorry to have to disappoint you: I know the concept of target-calls and I make use of it with and without hemchmen.

I only care about the looks of my char, I'm a freeloader who constantly claims to have lag, so the others can do the dirty work.
And since the majority of GW-players is dumb, I usually get away with it.

If only we could clean up this thread. The origional poster started a thread I have wanted to start a while ago, and now I see it is being hijacked (partly by the OP and changed into a flamefest).
I hate

_____ Picked up some crap he will sell to the merchant
____ as won a battle in the House of Heros and who cares while I am PvEing, except for in the ToA
I agree that the new build messages should be kept on all the time, but why do I have to look at all the dropped and picked up messages.
BTW wispers are toggleable. Set yourself to Offline, after you get in your group. Or, I think busy works too.

You blast someone about the target calls when it's obvious that they know what they are. You try to blast me by quoting someone else and putting my name on it? Can you actually find your ass with a map? I doubt it.
Ashley's points are valid, there is much uneeded info spammed across the screen. I'd personally like to see much more customising - like a little mute button beside each person's name in the party box, and a little toggle there to turn on/off map drawings (from each person) so you can ignore the twit who doesn't know what he's doing/is drawing penes on the map.
You, however, try to pull a post apart like a prat, despite there being nothing wrong with it, and then prove that you can't use a quote button if your life depended on it... Wow, I hope you are young, because if you are an adult you really have no chance. Maybe you'll grow out of it.

Gaile Gray ArenaNet Sorry for casting "Resurrection" on this post. However, I've been asked to do so by the OP and out of respect for him, I will do so. Here is the situation as it stands: The OP would like to use a particular name that contains a word that is currently blocked on the word filter. The word was blocked intentionally, but I believe that the block was an error. I checked, saw that it was blocked, and with all honesty felt that it would be an easy change to make to unblock it. As it turns out, though, it is not an easy change to make because it involves global reimplementation of the filter list, and any changes involve six (and growing) languages. [B]With significant changes in the form of Sorrow's Furnace and other planned updates, I decided to not request that we pull a programmer off of global changes for a single player's personal name request. (And let's be honest, if I had asked it, I would have been denied the request! "We're working on a major update, and you want us to what?" )We regret that it is not possible for us to unblock the word at this time. It simply is not as high a priority as are many other things that benefit all players. I personally apologize if some of the many PM's and the Support tickets on this matter went unanswered. I have answered many of them and I really felt that I was being exceptionally accommodating for messages about a personal request from a single player. I will be as forthright as I can with this now: We have not made the change. I errored in stating that it could be changed soon and I regret that. It was not a lie, and it was in no way a dismissive response. It was made as a friendly gesture and with the belief that we could make the change in a short timeframe. When I learned that this was a elaborate process, that it involved six languages, and that it would be impractical to open up the process for a single name, I tried but apparently failed to communicate that to the OP. I believe that focusing on global changes that benefit all players is the correct choice, and that we should not prioritize a personal request above working on matters that positively impact hundreds of thousands of players. I hope that this satisfies the matter fully, and am hopeful that everyone will see that this was handled as fairly and appropriately as possible. |

And what to expect from someone who goes all moo about a Charactername and starts some serious namecalling? Not much. And i've not been disappointed with my judgement. Maybe you know what those target calls mean now and then, yet you still put them in a context where they were described as uselss junk along the lines of lootdrops .
And you really wonder why someone interprets that as a document of ignorance? Don't make me laugh.
If you've got problems with reading the "blue blur" you might want to visit a doctor for that. It could be a problem with your eyes (no offense, before someone starts trying to put up yet another flamepost) as i've never had a problem reading the text flowing in during a mission. Sure, the Trade and Localchat in Town gets all blurry, but the Teamchannel never has been much of a problem in missions - not even in the most moronic ones where all they did was spam targets all the time, like 20-50 times. You might also consider to enlargen the chatbox as that gives you some more time to read things.

So, summing it up, the UI lacks a certain degree if customizability.
Same seems to go for the sort-order of skills.
They changed it, so the default is now 'sort by attr.' instead of 'sort by name'.
Some like (as I read on some other thread), some don't.
Why didn't they change it in a way, that your sort order is saved (along with the many other infos they save on their server) in your character profile?
That way everybody would be happy.

you forgot the most useless of all: green text every time you anyone in the same instance of you gains a skill point or level. nobody wants to see that if it's a stranger who you don't even know. it's so annoying. in large towns it's especially bad.
and you also forgot the most annoying green text of all: the green text that spams you constantly anytime there is a new version of Guild Wars available. you'd think the devs would respect the players more than to spam them constantly with no way for the player to avoid their endless barrage of spam other than to quit the game (which may not always be possible right away due to being on a mission etc.)
however i only partially agree with you. they should not just have a toggle as simple as "turn all green text off". people who win the HOH deserve to have their Guild name glorified for everyone to see via a green text message.
when items drop it's very good to have the green text as a reference point/safeguard in case you don't happen to see it on the ground
so if they are going to put toggles in for green text, it would only be useful if it was a series of many green text related toggles as opposed to just one single toggle, and the HOH message should not be toggleable ever.
Ashley Twig
I don't know. Why force text on players that they don't want to see?
Except for the system-messages like 'new update, reconnect' they should all be toggleable.
Having to reconnect is bad, I agree, and I hope that aNet does those updates at times, when, statistically, there's the lowest load on the servers and as little users as possible are online.
It would sure be an increase of post-sales customer service quality to warn people a given time before the actual update.
Something along the lines of "Update will occur in x minutes".
That would give users time to reconsider the start of a new mission and would tell those who are on a mission to speed up.
