I asked in camp rankor why there was a large amount of people buying frosted griffon wings in bulk. One of the people wanting to buy them PM'd me and said it was a scam for noobs.
This i assume is to make people think they are IRIDESCENT griffon wings which have a base price of 25 gold, as opposed to the 8 gold for a frosted wing.
Why frosted wings (higher level griffons) are only worth 8 gold is strange anyway but i just thought i'd let everyone know that the lowlifes are still active in Guild Wars.
Cursor over any wings you buy!!
Watch out for griffon wing scam

cant you use the frosted griffon wings for the collector right outside camp rankor? he's got a pretty leet shield if i remember correctly.. although why someone would buy the wings in bulk is beyond me.

It's not a scam. People don't buy the Frosted Wings for their merchant value. They buy them to exchange with the merchant in Snake Dance - who has a really nice shield and a terrific air staff. The merchant doesn't take Irridescent wings (nor does he accept Mastercard, Visa or Discover).
Why do people buy them in bulk? Because there's a nice business in selling the same Shields and Air Staves at Lion's Arch or Ascalon for a profit. It's not a ripoff, because Frosted Wings aren't easy for everyone to collect, and some people would rather just pay a couple of k for the staff or shield.

I can't imagine that being the scam as desert griffion wings while the value maybe higher sell much cheaper. I can buy bulk irridescent wings for 50g ea and at the most 100g. The few times i have bought frosted the average price of the spamming sellers were 200g all the way up to 300g.
I'd assume if there was a scam it would be taking the shields from the collector right outside and telling nobbies they are rare leet shields.
I have absilutly nothing againest selling collector items and actually make a fair share of my money doing so but I also never try to sell something for 50k and claim its "uberleet rare"
Awesome, great and even perfect are acceptable to me because most high end collector items to me are those things! Rare though they are not.

Besides, some of those collectors can be a right pain in the ass to get to!
The one in Mineral Springs (guy trading Mountain Troll Tusks for the Ascalon/shortbow) springs to mind as being a pretty tough hike.
Then again, I'm all about the satisfaction you get from finding stuff for yourself in these games, so for me that trek was fun.. but I can certainly see how people might rather pay a few hundred gold to someone so they can skip it.
As long as they're not trying to sell collector items for tens of thousands of GP, I think it's a pretty fair way to earn some money actually.

It was easy enough to spot, but if one was not paying attention, then the scam would definately work.
