Meteor Shower

Exactly how does meteor shower work?
Certainly you can see that not every meteor is actually hitting anything - most of them seem to be cosmetic. Also the area of effect seems to be very small, far less than a firestorm. I'd say it's about target & adjacent. It seems like Meteor Shower has about the same radius as Meteor itself :/
So how many hits does it actually do? Is it random, or regular (eg. a meteor will hit everyone in the AOE every 1 secs... ). Are the meteors purely cosmetic, or do they actually affect what gets hit? (eg, a meteor will randomly fall somewhere in the area of effect, missing the target. Anything standing where the meteor fell will be hit, but the target is not hit.)
Since all targets get knocked down at the same time, I'm guessing the meteors are purely cosmetic, and the spell does 1 AOE hit every X seconds, for a duration of N seconds. Does anyone know what values X and N are? What's the radius of the AOE?

every third meteor hits, the knockdown is for about 1s. There are around 9 'waves', resulting in a total of three knockdowns and depending on level, three hundred damage

Wow... I knew Meteor shower wasnt all that good... but that's really crap.
No wonder targets have so much time to get out of the way before they even start to take damage...

It is probably the most ideal AoE to counter wards... just so you know... the area that it hit is not very big... or rather, smaller than most AoE in the game.

good on the dais or koth where noone really wants to get out of the way. apart from that, its not really great. But understandably so, if say, every meteor knocked down it would be retardedly overpowered.

There's no reason not to use the far superior Maelstrom. Unless you are passionately crazy for fire spells. Oh, and when someone trys to walk out of Maelstrom your finger is hovering over Trident, right? RIGHT?

actually i think the meteor shower/maelstrom shine most on altars OR against healing ball groups. in terms of both, i think meteor shower wins.
heres why:
meteor shower will knock them down, and hit them with some nice damage. add on BA and before they can cast heal area theyl all be dead. really. i played against one with a fire ele and the score chart (press o) was |
for altars, the hero is one smart guy and will keep using claim resource while getting showered. so this will interupt him, as well as get the monks busy.
maelstrom is nice but you can walk out. oh you said trident, but theres about 5 monks in a heal ball. i dont think you can knock them all down. and on an altar, the hero is too smart to go anywhere. so your trident wont do much. and im not 100% about this but i dont think it interupts claim resource.
i think meteor shower wins.

personally i like maelstrom ... faster recharge ... kinda hidden so in the heat of battle you can interrupt some key skills if they are not on their game ... meteor is good enough for 1 knockdown ... 2 if your lucky. I like it, just personally prefer maelstrom.

RIGHT. HYDROS FTW. Oh wait, when I'm in tombs, I use Ward Against Harm.

I would have preferred it as a large aoe spell. Say meteors drop randomly over an area the size of a ward. Every meteor hits and knocks down, but since the meteors are random, there's a chance that none of them will hit anything. Or they might hit a target if he moves but not if he stays still. Random.
Alternatively, it would have been nice if, out of every "wave" the first meteor hits, and the next two are cosmetic. At the moment its absurdly common to miss things altogether, even in pve.

Its an awsome skill against foes that do not move, or when crowded around a warrior, cast it on the group and not only does it damage, it knocks down and with the warrior hacking away as well... its a good tag team. I used it a lot against grouped foes and find it very effective.

use it on an altar, they stay bunched there. what else stays bunched... healing balls stay bunched. really anything that doesnt move = owned by it (add on BA and its like total ownage)
now for people that like to run... ward against foes anyone?
you can run out of a meteor shower if you got hit once, but when snared you gonna move nice n slow out of it
and no one expects it. not to mention the huge shoulder rubbing rubberbanding lag you get when that happens. if you snare some monks in that, GG

The area of effect is too small for meteor shower - even slowed, they move out of it pretty easily. Especially since the first 2 meteors are cosmetic, that's plenty of time to notice it and move away.
I wonder how many wars it takes to totally surround and hem in 1 guy, and prevent him from moving? 3? 4?

nah ive been hit by meteor shower before. its that underlying belief that this one spell ur about to cast is gonna totally decimate that monk. so you sit there casting until you go "shit". then it starts to suck when everyone runs out and you get hemed in by your own team, etc. believe me it happens (although rarely i admit)

Meteor Shower is much better in KOTH maps or Relic maps where you can control where the enemy stands. Putting this on the throne or in front of a snared relic-runner can buy you some time or force the enemy to move.
I agree that Maelstrom is a superior spell unless you've already got a guy with high fire magic and no water eles.

Wait, how exactly do you put meteor shower *in front* of a guy? You'd have to target one of his allies, and hope that said ally doesn't move before your 5 second cast is up? I don't think that's gonna work very well.

lol yea idk what he meant. usually the runner is tagged by a monk but those are usually behind the runner... so you cant do one of those...
if you want to stop runners, meteor ftw
