K, I am really interested in GW because of the NO grinding fact. i am 21 years old and a gamer by heart but starting a grown up life style where I work 40 hours a week and am married. I think this game is for me, but it cost $50 and I am going to have to compromise to get it if I want it. So can someone tell me what the game purpose is? can you go out and fight solo? is group play fun? what is the PVP style like, meaning can I can anyone anywhere I want? is there loot in PVP? is it the type of game where I can jump on, play 30 mins and get off and have had fun or did I send those 30 mins traveling to a good hunting location??

Thanks

The purpose of the game is to have fun. You engage in PvE and PvP in cooperative or solo play.

PvP is a controlled group experience. You have 3 basic flavors: random group assignments, predetermined group assignments, and guild battles.

To get to a good hunting location, you will hit "M" for the map, and select which town you want to go to. You can then meet up with people or grab some henchman and exit into an adjacent zone.

To answer the question in your thread title, the purpose of this game is to have fun, and fun is something that this game has in copious amounts. To answer your other questions: 1. Yes, you can go out and solo, but it becomes increasingly hard to do at the later missions/explorable areas. (Note: Soloing in this game usually involves hiring "henchman". These henchman are computer controlled characters that share loot and experience with the PC.) 2. You can't fight anywhere you want in PvP. PvP is restricted to either arenas, the Tombs, or Guild Halls. This helps to reduce a lot of griefing. 3. There is currently no loot in PvP, but you can get fame points or in the case of Guild battles, a higher rank on the guild ladder. 4. To answer your last question simply, yes for the most part.

P.S. if anyone sees any wrong information in this post, feel free to correct me.

Well, you can't 'can' anyone anywhere you want, only in the above mentioned PvP areas. Also, all the missions and explorable areas are instanced only for your group (our yourself, if you go solo). This prevents corpse ninja and kill stealing stuff. On the grind aspect, if you're a hardcore PvP kinda guy, then you may have trouble. It takes about 30 or so hours till you reach max level, at which point the game really starts, both for PvP and PvE.

Just visit the various sites, and read up on the forums to get a feel for the game. It's a great game, so if you do buy it, I'm sure you won't regret it.

You can have a real blast in this game but i don't want you have any false impressions.

1) you will start at level 1 with absolutly nothing and no clue what to do(unless you read up first)
2)The missions are not always short(my guess is 30 min to an hour unless you get stuck without a good group then it takes longer)
3)PvP is great fun but you can't really compete unless your character is leveled and well outfitted(especially in the high levels of play)

That aside the game can be quick fun or a fun project depending on what your trying. The community can be very fun and supporting especially in guilds(try to find a good one). I've played through the beta and its addicting but your in control and everyone understands if you have to leave. Well thats just my side of it.

Thanks for all your great info, I am going to wait a while, just to see if I can get a friend to buy it first and check it out at his place.

You can create a lvl 20 PvP character. Mind you, it will not be that great if you don't unlock skills and items through exploring the rest of the game with a Role Playing character (who will start at lvl 1).

I played SWG for a long time and WoW for a little while, and thing that I didn't like were that there were unneccary time-takers. Traveling, death penalties, and finding a good group are just a few. I only have a precious 1-2 hours a night, and I want to make the most out of them.

GW is GREAT for a person who lives as an adult but still wants to enjoy an immersive online RPG. It has everything a pay-per-month MMO has, plus more, (and less things in a good away; no time sinks)

I am loving every minute of GW. My friends and I do some quests, and then for the last 15 minutes we hit up the Arena to test out our new skills.

A lot of fun!
