i think its really cheap that someone can get a friend to make a FAKE bid on a item they are selling just to increase the price, so other people have to pay more.

It's a fact of life in any type of auction - real world or here. It sucks but there's nothing you can do about it.

You wouldn't believe how many times I played along only to say "Bah, let him have it" at the end, and then they'd suddenly make up some excuse as to why the other "bidder" retracted his bid.

Lots of PC parts do that in eBay; dont eBay for PC parts; Newegg ;D.
Car Audio hasnt had that happen to yet as of late; but some things are plauged with "friends" and "new members" and look there 3 sets of guys bidding 20 sec after themselfs.

eBay needs a policy with bidding within a certain time or cant bid over yourself.

doesn't make much sense for them to keep switching around like that if they DO have a set time.

It's called shill bidding, and is against Ebay rules. Report suspected offenders and hope they get banned.

Anyway, taking advantage of the ignorant by making them think they got a good deal is SOP in salesmanship. Especially dealing with cars.

When you decide to haggle or go to an auction, you do so either because you like finding exotic items, or because you're cheap and trying to save a little money by paying less to someone else. If it's the latter, then there's no reason not to think they're trying to do the same to you, to squeeze a little more money out of you than they could otherwise get.

Always do research on the value of an item beforehand, and set a limit for yourself, and never pay more than that, unless you're otherwise obligated to. (Such as being in desperate need of an antique to replace one you shattered while visiting a relative. Then, you're constrained by time.)

I hate the feedback discrimination in ebay. No one trusts you unless you have so much (usually 5) but I never bought or sold anything before. Do I have to waste my time buying 5 shitty small things to get feedback. That's why I don't bother.

I can't trust anyone bidding on items in ebay (sound like I'm paranoid) but the moment you bid on a item, someone will bid right after you with a higher price than it goes back and forth till you either win the auction or give up.

Question? is it confirmed that there will be a auction system in Guild Wars (within the game, say in town and stuff) or are you talking about bidding on auction in different website?

whoa, hey there. i have had that many times where the bidder would back out saying "oh i found another one for cheaper" and even "i dont really want it i was just messing with you". just because that happens, doesnt mean a friend is upping the bid (you know i wasnt because, well, i have no friends).

Thats why i dont bid on auctions on ebay until there is only a minute or less left. Anyone who bids before that is stupid and is only wasting their own money.

So basically we got insider trading going on now, eh? NERF NERF!! A.Net needs an SEC now to mitigate these things. I call for a NERF!

In actuality, I believe this to be a dishonest practice, and wouldn't recommend doing it. In some states, it is a crime (not pertaining to OL games though.)

i did it once on ebay, someone's bid was on 23.40 or something, and i knew he would have had a max bid of 25, so i got a friend to bid 24max. nothing wrong with it tbh.

Honestly, if you're buying GW gold or GW items with real life money, you deserve whatever ripoffs you get.

Quote:
Shill Bidding is bidding that artificially increases an item’s price or apparent desirability, or bidding by individuals with a level of access to the seller’s item information not available to the general Community. Shill Bidding is prohibited on eBay.

Because family members, roommates and employees of sellers have a level of access to item information which is not available to the general Community, they are not permitted to bid on items offered by the seller -- even if their sole intent is to purchase the item. Family members, roommates or employees may purchase items from a seller without violating this policy simply by using purchase options -- such as Buy It Now -- which do not involve bidding.
Direct violation of Ebay policy, and a dishonest practice.
