Fugettaboutit.

Keys will be dropped, which will unlock chests giving out rare items.

No one will need to buy items again. There will be plenty to go around.

Actual trading may pick up... selling will die.

I think I like it.

Check the review of sorrows furnace at IGN.com.

There are going to be keys dropped that open chests containing rare items. Everyone with a key gets an item from the chest.

Plenty for all!

Selling will continue. Just because you get a key doesnt mean youre gonna get an item you need or want. So there will still be people wanting to buy certain items who havent otten them themselves. Besides, the keys are going to be rare and expensive drops as anet said in the release notes. I have a feeling they will drop about as often as scrolls do and I for one have never been in a group that one has dropped for let alone picked up one on my own.

The additions of keys and chests found around the world is a gameplay addition to fix the problem. These keys are expensive, but will also be dropped by creatures. Chests hold nothing but uncommon and rare items for players to use.

Even better is that no one will have to fight over a chest in an area. Everyone will have a chance to search it with their key (should they have one) and grab a nice treasure.

Expensive... as in you can purchase from a merchant? (Or locksmith... heh heh)

Expensive implies you can buy one.

As for not having what you want... I can see a new era of trading... hey, my axe for your bow... ok kewl...

I think it's time to give ANet credit. This just gets better and better.

The ign report did imply that they'd be for sale, so we'd have to see

But, on the other hand... the price will be less than the merchant selling them.

Go go wild rumour mill. Let's wait and see how they actually implement this, and how it affects the community, instead of jumping to conclusions based on a few IGN propaganda lines.

Did Guild Wars actually announce this update or this just something you heard from someone else who heard from someone?

I do agree that the selling system is not very good but it will be tough to implement a good one. Please elaborate on the key/chest thing. Or post a link to whereever you got this information. Thanks.

Anet has talked about it in some of the Sorrow's Furnace info, and the IGN report about SF talked quite a bit about it.

There is a link on the official site (www.guildwars.net) that redirects to an IGN preview of sorrows furnace.

Thus these infos are 100 % trustable.

I got a question, would this key be randomly drop for different players in your party? What if the key never drop for your character, are you force to pay 1k to 20k for one little key?

what if you team with henchies (if henchies are allow), knowing that henchies nerf drops, i would think a player with full group of henchies would probably not get any key drops for them.

Well, keys are supposedly going to be one-shot items, so I doubt they will be INCREDIBLY rare drops, or that expensive from Merchants (hell, it may even be like the odd locked chest in Diablo2... unlock a chest, and get more keys... god that was annoying). I've heard rumors that henchies won't affect drops as bad in the future, so we'll have to see how htey affect keys and locked chest items.

Yeah this isn't going to stop selling. Number one, people will just sell the keys. And number two, there's no guarantee that your rare drop will be what you are looking for. Selling will still take place to give people exactly what they needs instead of relying on luck and random drops. This MAY encourage more trading though, as you can swap that gold max dmg axe for a gold max dmg staff that someone else has.

If they are like chests we have now rare items will be few and far between. Other than the chests in Fissure and UW that you get to open after some quests I think I have only ever seen a rare item come out of a chest twice.

The chests will only contain purple and gold items, and everyone with a key gets one.

I don't see how this really is that big a difference. Now there's 1 more thing to wait for. Purple drops, gold drops, and keys. Keys then get you 1 either purple or gold item. Someone explain how this is any different?

Unless keys drop all the time, which I doubt, in which case everything will become common.

Regarding buying keys, they'd likely come with a significant price tag meaning that the rich can buy gold items by buying more keys, like trading right now by buying gold items they want.

This doesn't seem like a big change to get worked up about. I guess now you can all celebrate at same time at 1 chest of the keys you all picked up individually previously. Whoop de doo!

I would think that the key can be use on one treasure chest than its gone and you need to get another one.

Make them become customized to the player that picks them up, like the merchant that customizes weapons, however it would be forced and instantanious upon pick-up.

That would solve the key selling theory, but like I've seen mentioned it'll be just like other rare drops for normal players they will be all but unobtainable.

well to add another question.

what will happen to their current chest spots. Will this make the "chests" random now, everytime you go out, you may never know where one will spawn.

If not, it will basically be open to continuous "chest farming".

/Definitely a new thing to watch for.

-cheers.

I put my faith in ArenaNet over the subject of keys. This is their most significant update so far and will not be surpassed until chapter two.
I doubt they would have designed a feature which "wouldn't work" and i'm sure they have had some extensive testing with the soon-to-be system.
