What purpose does PvE serve?

What is the point of PvE when I can just make a lvl 20 character? And does PvE still go on at lvl 20?
azunder
From what I've heard PvE unlocks things for newly created characters. Most of the PvE does happen at lvl20.

But why bother doing PvE at lvl 20? You can't gain any more levels.

Everything's the same anyway if you gain levels. In a traitional MMO, let's say you're level 1 and you're in the level 1 zone and the difficulty level is just fine. You want do go to the level 2 zone but it's too hard unless you're at level 2. When you finally get to level 2 and you go to the level 2 zone, the challenge level is the same as being level 1 in the level 1 zone. The only difference: big numbers.
In guild wars, since the level is static, it's the challenge that changes. Not, the numbers.

A good system, better than most Rpg's

Though it doesn't hurt to be a good level before taking on hordes of Charr

You guys are being too sensitive.
I'm just asking what the point of leveling a character from 1 to 20 is when I can just make a lvl 20 guy now and pvp. I have a lvl 3 character and am just wondering if it is worth spending a few weeks to level him to 20.

Oh. Well, from what I've heard, instant lvl20 characters only have access to things one of your "Roleplay" characters have gotten.

But uber items etc... dont exist in this game, so there is really no need for that is there? Am I missing out by not leveling a guy to 20?

Unless the PvP character you are creating is one of the pre-made templates, you can only use skills you "unlocked" in PvE. Which means, with a new account you cannot create custom characters.
You also have to unlock runes & weapon parts in PvE before a PvP-only character can use them.
A completely cosmetic difference is the color selection when dying armor pieces.
And finally, with a PvP character you cannot access any PvE content (self explanatory, no?).
Try creating a PvP character, selecting that option doesn't melt your video card you know .

after level 20, i believe you earn skill points as you continue leveling.
your pve character unlocks skills which your pvp characters use, and your pve character can also pvp i believe. plus there's the guild battles. and expansion packs in the future.

It is *not* worth to spend a few weeks getting your lvl 3 character to lvl 20, if you think that is boring work. You should only play because you think it is fun play, not for the rewards (which are virtual anyway).
If you do play for fun, you will find that your lvl 3 character reach lvl 20 without even trying.
