There are a large number of guilds who are interested in GvG, but lack the members to GvG properly. They can usually rally 3-5 players of varying skill and often end up taking henchmen. They have very little knowledge of Tombs, the FotM build, and tend to lack organization. When the GvG they want to have a shot at winning. The new guest system possibly creates an interesting role, the soldier for hire.

Most of the guilds that need help will be PvE oriented guilds looking to get into PvP. They will probably have spare gold lying around, good PvP players can charge fees to aid them in GvG.

What would be necessary:
A spare PvP character slot (you have going to have to fill the gaps yourself)
A good deal of skills unlocked and a knowledge of most classes
A knowledge of popular builds and simple builds that could easily be implemented by newbie PvP players
2-3 friends to function as players you can rely on

Classes to excel at:
Monk, Mesmer, and Warrior

Most newbie PvP guilds would not have good monks and their warriors will likely be PvE oriented. You are also highly unlikely to find anyone playing mesmer. You will likely find scattered rangers and necros with elementalists being common.

You could charge for your services and make a good deal of faction in the process. Things are made much more convenient by the guest system and PvE players are likely to be open to the concept (they are already introduced to paying for runners or paying to have people beat difficult missions for them.)

Interesting idea, but with the new skill trainer in Ember's Camp and the extremely easy access to gold and purple items in every chest, faction is quickly becoming as worthless as gold is becoming. Nothing like dealing with a bunch of terrible PvPers to gain tons of faction and gold with nothing to spend either on . . .

In the quest to eliminate grind, which is admirable in a way, have they eliminated any reason to keep playing the game . . . ?

It is a good idea, the only issue is in the implementation.

In general the call goes out "Everyone that wants to Gvg meet in the guild hall". This is an area that you don't have access to without being a part of the guild. So while you could stand next to they guy saying "Running to X for 1k per person." in Lions Arch the fact is, you wouldn't get the exposure to the right people at the right time.

I think to be successful, you have to only do it in a specific town, one that is not a trading alley (Lions Arch would not be a place to do this for example) where your calls are lost in the masses.

Also I don't believe that one player will make an eight group squad successful. You will not learn the nuances of the crew you are going with until you have gone into battle with them several times. To counter this, I think you should have a crew of four that would temporarily join the guild. Before each battle, the foursome would get paid. And as the guild rating goes up, you are making bank. They won't kick you as long as you win.

I think you could make quite a killing alternatively by teaching guilds how to GvG. This is truly an art. From communication, to group makeup, to skill slot assignment, to weapon choices, to proper use of a map. This is truly an art.

I think you are onto something, it is just not an easy thing to do. Best of luck to you.

As a side note, I did something similar in Thunderkeep mission. I was one of the first (if not the first) to charge for the services of my monk. I've found thought that it is far better to farm for shards and ecto for the same amount of time.

The difference between running and mercenary work is that a lot of people actively seek runners. You would honestly be best off advertising in Tombs I believe. You would have to develop a reputation and plant the seed of an idea. They would then friends list you and call upon you when they need you. The ideal situation is they do "Hey everyone let's GvG" and then only get 5 or 6 people. They then look on their friends list and see you are on and ask if you are available.

The other problem is what to spend cash on. As a PvP player gold doesn't mean so much.

The military advisor thing can also work.
