Ok so yesterday a couple new guild members who are actual friends of mine in real life finally ascended, made their way to forge, and were dyng to get in on some team arena action. Sounded good to me, they are decent at tpve and everyone has to pvp for the first time sometime....

Now when we started fighting they obviously werent the greatest, we lost quite a few matches because they didnt have the experience to know how to react to certain situations. Focused targets, switrching targets, not running out of heal range, ganking priests, trading priests, running from balths aura, the kind of tactics that appear obvious to veteran pvp-ers were just not happeneing because they were new.

Furthermore, none of them had particularly great builds. Firing away with Tigers Fury and Power Shot is ok but wont kill anything. The other ranger had a better build since he had Melandrus Arrows, which I had JUST helped him capture. Our axe warrior was also new and did not have maxed attributes and had no elite skill. So basically the only experienced person on our team is me, and I basically monked and said that Id give them as much time as I could to figure things out and kill stuff. I gave them tips about every 3 seconds over TS, and even went so far as to start calling targets for them...

Now, what started as a pleasant experiance of training my new crop of players quickly turned ugly. We lost several matches that we normally wouldnt have, but getting owned wasnt what bugged me. What bugged me was the kind of comments we got for losing so badly, like

"Next time you make a pvp build, be sure to take out the 'suck'"
"Pathetic Guild"
"Quit life"

Ok, my guild's A team (which I am a part of) is the kind of team that pretty much flawlesses everything. Not one of the guilds that beat us yesterday was particluarly talented or skilled, yet they chose to rub in our faces their "superiority", assuming that we were using our best team, one that we had spent weeks devising and planning. But what can I say? "We werent playing for real"? Lol to any of you that would sound like a lousy excuse for suckiness, no matter how true it is in this instance.

So is there any way to train new members without causing such damage to the guild's reputation. I wont lie, I care about what other people think of us. I care because our top PvPers have spent a great deal of time establishing a solid reputation. Hundreds of guilds that arena frequently will tell you they dont want to be facing GSS. And for a couple guilds of scrubs to beat us once, when we werent even using hardly any veteran players and no form of an organized build, and then make overzealous claims of superiority, really frosts me.

Does anyone else experience this?

thats why i have never "trained" for pvp. i have no pvp guild and pugs in tombs dont work. especially if all you have done are random 4v4. thats why i hope i come across some nice people with this new guest feature!

wll all i can say is this. just as in real life who cares what people say about you?

in your hear you know different and tht is ALL THAT MATTERS!!!

ignore the morons in the game and train your buildmembers. what is most important is that you know what is happening.

if a 12 year old want to scream you such who the hell cares>>?

your guildmember know the truth and so do

well u could always make a temporary guild called "GSS Training" Have everyone join that one, that way people will see that u guys are training...

But still those responses are typical 8 year old behavior.

You kinda have to ask yourself: Do I actually care about these people's opinions. I'm pretty sure the answer is no. And I'm fairly sure other top PvP player's don't care what the leet kiddies have to say either.

Wandering my own road.

Make a secondary guild and do unrated battles against them for practice, I suppose.

Just ignore them. They're idiots, their opinion doesn't mean anything.

I for one don't take any chances, I usually keep the Local Chat tab muted, unchecking it at the end of battle to see whether they were assholes or whether they were cool and deserve a "gg" for their win.

Why not find another friendly guild and have an unrated practice guild match with them? You dont need to have a full team, since you're not competing. You could even get them to provide friendly criticism, advice, or to get them to simulate certain situations for you.

I wouldn't worry about 'losing face' one bit in Team Arena, anyone that takes any victory or losses there seriously is not important enough to care about.

Secondly, if you're training new blood, I would actually recommend giving them good builds to play with. If you're just letting them take anything they want, their failure can be due to both their build and their experience/skill. If you give them a working build (and lack of elites is not a critical factor in this considering we're talking Team Arena), they can focus on their experience/skill entirely to see what they're doing wrong.

BC, Canada.. how aboot that eh?

Ive been insulted in pvp for many things and have heard the following commets " Fire ele sucks" "Omg attack target, *five seconds earlyer*, im attacking player a, im attacking player b, im attacking player c, im attacking player b.. again" "rolf noob team" "rofl we pwned you" "and you wonder why everyone hates america" (got that one from Europe in tombs after somone on my team was joking about the Alt F4 for speed boosts) "Lol america sucks" and so on... solution, ignore chances are you will not see them for a long time, if ever. A few times i have rejoied after a loss and beat the team that beat me earlyer.. that feels great

If i ever had a rep in PvP it would be for being the only person who can take a loss with out insulting the other team or my own team and my random comments after a loss "remeber me as a hero" "wts fresh corpes" and so on

Just disable all chat when you are playing in Random Arenas or Team Arenas. That is what I do.

Or better still, take a screen shot of what they said. Visit:
http://support.guildwars.com/

Causing mental distress to other players in Guild Wars by insulting, any forms of verbal attacks etc are a violation of the Rules of Conduct.

Just report the incident and the authorities of Guild Wars will look into the matter.

Cheers.

They're the ones that suck.. I mean.. if they can't even realise a team is training.. or some players just need to get experience.. than they're the ones that are utterly stupid.

nuff said.

i rounded up the members, and basically made him want to quit. ok, so it wasnt exactly one of my better moments...but if your people started shouting ownage and uber and crap when he should be fighting...

edit: now that i think about it, its sad that i have more control of those members than the actual guild leader...

Yep there are people who will talk crap like that....but I've seen you say the same things in your posts about other people's builds, Neo. So I guess you got a taste of your own medicine.
