As you know with chest keys and maxed modded Green weapons gold items aint worth much no more, Arena Net dont want this game to be a silly "godly" item and that kinda game, its a GAMERS game so i got news for YOU...get with it or get out!,
Just wait till chapter 2 comes out, it WILL be end of the 100k+ weapons of anykind..

obviously you ahve not played the new areas. in every chest is a purple or gold item. that includes every item you mentioned
just wait till more and more people play the new areas..
there is at the most a minimal need for trade now

Now its a LOT easier to find gold i have found 5 gold items and 9 purples in a day!!..
No item in this game should cost stupid amounts of money i.e. +15 above 50 crystalline ( i sold one myself for stupid money ) its tempts people to farm and use bots messing it up for every one else beacuse Arena Net are forced to nerf everywhere!
I say solve the problem by controling these type of people by changing things in the game like Arena Net have now done
Algren Cole
so I'm playing the game and I'm getting a gold or a purple from every chest I open. I open 30 chests in 3 days, 10 a day, and I got 12 gold max dmg weapons and 18 purple max or 1 off max with great upgrades....
what the hell are you going to do with them? everyone else has the exact same 30 weapons you do....

exactly. they nerfed the need to farm. this was intended. how you can either sell them to the trader, use them , or go to ascalon and give them to a newbie
i know you do this all the time
Jetdoc
I'm starting to think that the keys are more valuable than actually opening the chests now for that very reason.
Algren Cole
the newbie will already have one...literally everyone in the game will have whatever they want and there won't be a need for drops or gold.....I mean I'm in favor of making it slightly easier for people to get what they want. which is the reason I give away max dmg "godly" weapons in LA and Ascalon...people should have access to them. But these chests remove the need for drops/gold entirely...now all drops do is take up space until I throw them in the trash. I don't see this being a good thing in the long run. It's nice now because it's flooding the market....but it makes 15K armor (for those that don't have it) and FoW armor(for those that don't have it) literally impossible to get. Hopefully it won't have a negative effect on the game, we'll have to see.
ya I generally give away gold and purple weapons in LA9 at night before I go to bed. unless of course the build I was working on didn't work and I only give away max dmg with decent mods...what's the point in getting a POS gold/purple weapon?
JetDoc: in my experience the drops you get from the chests aren't worth the price of the keys. Last night I got 4 keys farming griffons...I went and opened 2 chests in grenths and 2 chests in SF...I got two superior runes worth 100 gold each(beast mastery and blood magic...I just dropped them back on the ground) The third chest dropped a purple 11-21 truncheon that I threw on the ground...the fourth chest dropped nothing(I assume this was a fluke bug)...but as you can see for what would have cost me nearly 2plat I got nothing.

What's the point of calling anything rare any more. Seems to me, they've done away with scarcity altogether. So the next time you go PvE - quest, mission, whatever - there will be no thrill of having any colored drops come flying out of a recent kill. With the new update, it's just a matter of time before everyone will have the max green weapon of choice.
Here's an idea, just do away with weapon drops altogether and give people free max damage, "rare" weapons at the merchant and have dead monsters only drop materials. Sound ridiculous? I agree, but if you think about it, isn't it really the same thing?

This, of course, all depends on the answer to my customization of green weapons question. If the answer is NO you can't customize them, then the value of the gold/purple items may be sustained once people realize this.

The market will be flooded with high quality items, and that's really as it should be. It's been stated before, but this isn't a game of items and armor. I've never had more than 30 or 35 plat total across all four characters, so I've never bought some rediculously priced whatever. Fine by me, my max damage gold short bow 15<50 (yeah, under 50) +26 health bow has gotten me through the end of the game (prior to the release...). But now... I expect to find something better in time, and I'm a touch giddy about it.
I did find a gold staff with +10 energy and a +4 energy head... my ranger quickly replaced the staff in slot two with the new one. Need that energy boost when trapping, you know.
Sellers will die, as I already predicted. Swapping will pick up. My bow for your axe kind of thing.
Of course, the ones that really take it in the mouth... the eBay crowd. There's no need to buy gold/items off of eBay now. None whatsoever.

Doom and gloom. Jeez people. The update = good-ness. Trading and buying and selling of the uber items still needs to be done, not to mention all the materials. Run of the mill max items most anyone can find easily enough sure. Green item impact is limited since I dont believe you can mod them. What has greatly changed is farmers have a bit less stranglehold on the circulation of goods. Anyone can find them playing any build, but you're still going to be looking.

As has been said about a billion times: This game is NOT about so-called "uber" weaponry. It is about the camraderie of cooperative gameplay and the competition in the PvP areas. THAT'S IT.
People who want to "farm" and find "uber" items to sell for exhorbitant amounts of toon gold need to find another game to play where that's an integral part of the experience. GW isn't about that sort of thing.

I think it's funny that people need to put things in neat little boxes to understand them. Let's not make any assumptions of what the game is originally meant to do but make money for a group of investors. That said, for the PvE side of this game to have any longevity past the quests and missions (even after you go through it multiple times with multiple characters), it will need to have scarcity that creates some kind of perceived value, which compells players to want to "buff up" and spend more time playing. At least enough pronlonged play for people to wait and want to pay for the next great update. This recent update, imho, has taken away that element of scarcity and, in effect, has created an evironment that breeds short term success with no inherent long term value for prolonged playing.

it is meant to be enjoyed as long as the person playing it is having fun.
as soon as the person gets bored with it he/she puts it away until the next big update/chapter comes out with breathtaking new content which is played until bored again.
rince and repeat evert few months.
as long as people feel they got their moneys worth in fun from the game they will be back.
i will
put differently this is a wonderful playground to visit not a place to live permantly like wow or eq etc

I personally want to destroy all seller that wants anything over 100K for Gold weapons. For example...before the update, the lowest offer for a vampiric sword is 175K...it wasn't that I couldn't afford it, but it was just overprice. Now after the release, I have gotten 3 max vampiric sword. I kept the best one, then sold the other two for 20K each, thats just to cover the cost of all the keys I spent, and I spent alot. Other items that I don't use and was selling for ridiculous amount before, I was handling out for free in Ascalon.

It's kind of funny, Anet has been talking about removing the need to farm since it started the long nerfing run, where it diminished drops and made heavily farmed areas more difficult to farm.
Nerf, nerf, nerf, everyone would say arenanet was nerfing farming to death
While, now they did the opposite of nerfing places, and they're STILL killing farming, apparently.
This was probably more for the casual player than anything;
I've gotten quite a few gold items over time farming with my e/mo. What I was really looking for were high/max mods. (My ele was wearing a +19% sword and a focus, when I wanted a staff, but couldn't get a decent %, not even as an unlock for my PvP char).
Now, people over the casual play of the game should get about the same, or slightly more items than I'd gotten through farming; I don't mind. I never farmed because I enjoyed it.
You know, I went out to do the Defend Droknar's quest;
Only TWO out of the eight group members even brought any keys out there.
People talk of everyone going out farming chests, and we run across 3 in the first 20 minutes of casual play, and most people didn't take advantage of these rares.
I think some people are on a heavy slippery slope. The casual player is going to be at where the minor farmer (The kind that farms rarely, and probably has less than 1 million exp) was, IF they choose to bring keys to missions and maps, and I already don't see everyone doing it. If the casual player is the kind that wouldn't farm unless they absolutely felt like they had to, I don't think the same arguments apply.

Please don't lump farmers together with LA salespeople - that's an insult to many farmers.

yeah I don't see the problem.. I think it's cool they have the new content and green weapons are a nice goal for most players.. far as nerfing farmers in uw- all can say is they nerfed the newbs.. yesterday got a gold storm off smites and gold eternal shield from the new phantom chest- you won't see either of these in sorrows.. ecto seems to drop the same- it's slower to farm than before but only cause you have to pay attention now.. if your good you'll see it is'nt really a nerf but it looks like more of a bot eliminator

Chests are a new form of gambling. They convert excess gold into rare items. This should help suck a lot of 'dead' gold out of the economy, as it gets gambled into random rare drops.
Remember that people will often pay 5k for an unided max rare regardless of type. Chests are significantly cheaper than that, and much faster and easier. I'd say that the change to chests is the best economic update in the game to date.
Peace,

Bullshit
The game is meant to be played however each player wants. I like finding, having, trading good quality items. I like customizing my character appearance. I like playing PvE. I cant stand PVP!
If the game was meant to be PVP-only, co-op play, then it would not have been created with a role-playing storyline element.
As for this update, I love it! I like having slightly easier access to the high-quality loot.
Bottom Line: You play it however you want, and I'll play it however I want.

Items costing more than 10K were extremely rare - basically only perfect max gold weapons of a very few types (fellblades, stormbows, eternal shields, chaos axes) - and were actually sold even more rarely. People were not unable to afford good weapons, they were unable to afford those perfect gold weapons. Back down one step in specs, and the weapon was affordable to anyone.
A vampiric sword 1:3 could be had for less than 10K, and 1:1 and 1:2's have always been cheap.
What has happened now is that the possibility to make serious money, ie 3-10K, by finding a good item or rune is gone. Which certainly wont make it easier for anyone who isn't already rich to get their FOW armor.
So the up-side is that everyone can and will now get gold max items & superior vigor (prices will drop), and the down-side is that it'll be a lot harder to get rich quick.

Personally I don't like using the chests. Out of the 20 or so keys I have bought(@ War Camp) I have never recieved anything really uber. Sure max damage this & max dmage that. Purple this & gold that but never anything really f'n awesome. I won't be buying keys anymore.
That said... I don't mind the keys at all & if they are better for the game, the economy & whatever then great! But I will be keeping my money in my pocket. Guess I'm just not a gambler.

I'm most certainly not against trading as such though, it's just that a large part of the traders seem to be 6 year olds with surgically removed brain .

buying low - selling high could also be considered as ripping people off, since you exploit their inexperience. Nothing you earn there, stop living in an illusion.

I know I'm not a businessperson, and don't enjoy trading at all, but kudos to people who find ways to make their money instead of coming to forums to whine they have never had over 30 plat (so far as they aren't scamming newbies for it of course).
