Make sure your new laptop has one of those nice, new shiny screens, 512mb of RAM (more if available), some kind of Radeon Mobile graphics card (9200 or higher), and an AMD64 processor. The reason I say AMD is that I've always had much better performance with their chips. You can go either way though.

thanks for that help.

my OTHER laptop hasn't got a good enough graphics card for GW and it's wireless card sticks out the side because it's a st00pid external one... that's why i use my ickle D400... but now that's dying! what will i do?!?!?! lol.

Do me a favour and look at what graphics chipset it had and what graphics memory could you. My IBM T23 runs GW but jerky and slow with many missing textures gonna have a look round for something else to use.

if you feel like paying out the ass you can get a laptop area 51-m...they come in fruity girly colors

I'd personally suggest this:

If you're not planning on traveling alot with it look for a DTR (Desktop Replacement) laptop. They're not the best for travel (more of a from here to there kinda laptop) but are usually packed with better hardware along the lines of a desktop. If $ is no object I think you should get a voodoo pc (http://www.voodoopc.com/showRoom.aspx?categoryID=2)
However, if you're like most of us then that's too expensive. I'd stick with Dell but look for something with dedicated video memory (something like the Insperion 9300 with the Geforce Go 6800)

Alienware Area 51m 7700.

Full desktop power, nice and portable. I just purchased one of these a month ago. Guild Wars looks absolutely sweet with max resolution, max graphic settings (including AA). They aren't cheap though, and to a comment above they no longer come in pretty colors.

As for wireless PCMCIA cards, you can get a much higher range with that little thing sticking out the side of your notebook as opposed to built in... just something to consider.

oh so many choices!!! those voodoo ones look very sexy though... but everything's in dollors! aren't any of you guys from the UK...

sorry but i don't know what graphics chipset mine has and what graphics memory it has... i can ask my darling computer geekie bf to tell me when he gets home from work though. it's probably the bare minimum, and yes, i don't always get full textures, but that's only when there's alot of other players around, only in big towns, and only on bridges for some reason...
