Direct X 9c (latest version) making me lag?

I run GW on a 512k broadband connection with NO issues with lag. However after recently installing the F.E.A.R demo which prompted me to install the latest direct x 9c (june) (i already had direct x 9c, but not june) I lag horribly, every 5-10 mins my pc chugs a bit and every 20 mins i lag like crazy or simply lose controls for 20 secs.

Im running.

3500+ XP 64 bit venice
1 gig DDR 400 Geil
6600 GT albatron
SB Audigy DE
Win 2k SP4

Could the latest direct x be the cause of my problems?

Direct X has a version called "manged" code that gets updated a couple of months. Developers can use these newer features from the managed code. It added to the DirectX 9c. Not sure if you can remove them without re-installing windows. See if it shows up in the Add/Remove Hardware list.

You may want to try and update it to the newer Aug code found here
